We don’t usually think of it as such in America, because nobody carries swords any more, but it is a martial art. The strength, speed, timing, and control of distance I learned in fencing kept me from getting mugged or beat up on more than one continent.

Few sports can teach such balance and timing.

Yes, it is a martial art. It should be kept alive and practiced carefully.

Bruce Lee’s art JKD absorbed a lot of attributes from fencing, as well as boxing.

Perhaps time for an NFA? Don’t know how this was missed after the Revolutionary War to keep alive the requisite skills necessary for great swordsmanship!

Cool sport, i suspect limited opportunities.
