[Great speeches are fine and dandy, but I want to see some actual deeds.]

Even in dictatorships, you need to prepare public opinion for what you are about to do. My guess is that Barr is laying the groundwork in terms of preparing the public for very aggressive actions that are diametrically opposed to Jeff Session’s easygoing tenure at DOJ where, along with Rosenstein, Sessions allowed Trump to be persecuted by entrenched liberal bureaucrats instead of putting his foot down. In other words, Barr is preparing to indict some of those anti-Trump bureaucrats as well as political appointees who may have abused their power and broken the law to get Trump, thereby putting them through the legal ordeal to which a number of Trump allies have been subjected. They may skate on the charges when all’s said and done, but even then, they will have gone through years of financial and emotional stress, thereby discouraging future such illegal/borderline illegal fishing expeditions against the other party’s political candidates.

Yes,yes - indictments are the key - then have all their dirty laundry exposed for public viewing. Regardless of the legal outcomes, these actions will help preserve the republic.

Your #13 outlines the issue very well, but I think your conclusion is largely wishful thinking:
- They may skate on the charges when all’s said and done, but even then, they will have gone through years of financial and emotional stress, thereby discouraging future such illegal/borderline illegal fishing expeditions against the other party’s political candidates.

History suggests any stress experienced by the "skaters" will be hailed as a worthy sacrifice in the totalitarian's long march rather than a discouragement. In any event, illegal actions v political candidates is but a small part of their game plan.

IMO, until Trump, America appeared unwilling to recognize or effectively confront that larger game plan. That may be due to the fact its voters have been intentionally "dumbed down" so as to be seduced by insincere politicians. The voters have settled for the ease of a weak defense rather than accept the rigors of a strong offense.

Yes and no. Leftists who go through hard times, no matter how culpable or evil, become heroes for the cause and usually end up with cushy jobs at Soros funded groups. They will get $100,000 speaking engagements and so forth for many years. The left takes care of its criminals and liars.
