Navy Secretary Richard Spencer said on Friday a Navy SEAL convicted of battlefield misconduct should face a board of peers weighing whether to oust him from the elite force, despite President Donald Trump's assertion that he not be expelled. 'I believe the process matters for good order and discipline,' Spencer told Reuters, weighing in on a confrontation between Trump and senior Navy officials over the outcome of a high-profile war-crimes case....

...The Navy responded with a statement saying it would follow 'lawful orders' from the president to halt the review but was awaiting further guidance, suggesting his Twitter post was not considered a formal directive....

...Trump’s intervention into the Navy’s affairs has angered senior military officers and civilian officials in the Pentagon, according to the Post....

Fire Spencer! You have every right to refuse to obey an UNLAWFUL order. None at all to disobey because you disagree. If you cannot obey THEIR lawful orders, why would anyone below you obey YOURS?

What in the hell is going on in the military? Former Lt Col myself and I cringe with shame seeing Vindman and other policy weenies dragging the military into the gutter. I've refused to obey an order I believed illegal. That is one thing. But I NEVER disobeyed a lawful order. Or pretended it wasn't binding because it was only verbal.

If Truman could fire MacArthur, a genuine American hero, Trump can fire this jackass.

Trump’s intervention into the Navy’s affairs has angered senior military officers and civilian officials in the Pentagon, according to the Post.

Intervention? Um What?

The Navy's Chain of Command ends at one place.

President Trump.

Seems to me that POTUS MUST fire him. You can't let this sort of insubordination go unanswered.

Eight years of Obama is what is wrong with our military. He systematically purged our best, brightest and most patriotic Generals, Admirals, Senior level Officers and NCOs and replaced them with his Commie/Muzzie sucking lackeys.

This is the schiff-storm that President Trump is having to deal with, today.

Now only has our military been infested, so has the entire Federal Government.

Anybody who is drawing a taxpayer funded paycheck who can correctly pronounce the name: Barak Hussein Obama needs to be terminated with extreme prejudice.

... Trump’s intervention into the Navy’s affairs ...

Intervention? INTERVENTION? He is THE Commander and Chief of the Armed Forces - he can't "intervene" in the affairs - they are HIS. HE appoints the Secretary - he works for the CinC. The commanders are sworn to uphold HIS orders. As long as they are lawful, what the CinC says is the way it is!

Stupid freaking journalists.

It’s like he’s saying, “Fire me, I won’t serve under a President Trump.” In that case he should resign.

But, he may figure if a number of (well warranted) Trump military firings can be made political, he’ll be lauded as a martyr for “the cause.” He’s probably has a good retirement secured anyway. This will raise his post-military visibility considerably.

Maybe he could parlay that into a gig hawking reverse mortgages.

‘I believe the process matters for good order and discipline,’

Trump, when he announces he has fired the idiot, should give as his reason - for good order and discipline.

If Trump lets this insubordination ride, then what is the incentive for any top officer in the military to obey his orders.

I agree. This is publicly giving Trump the middle finger. The title itself shows how everyone will take it: “Navy secretary DEFIES Trump”.

How do you have a military where anyone can openly and publicly defy their superiors? Complain in private? Fine. But once your commander decides, and the decision is legal, all discussion ends! Salute and obey. We fought to PROTECT democracy. We didn’t practice it!

Spencer, a former Marine who went on to a successful career as a Wall Street banker, was appointed by Trump to be Navy secretary in 2017.

Trump was planning to offer a pretrial pardon to Gallagher, according to the Post.

But Spencer talked him out of it.

“Trump’s intervention into the Navy’s affairs has angered senior military officers and civilian officials in the Pentagon, according to the Post.....

The Navy wants to convene expulsion panels for Gallagher and three SEAL officers who were his supervisors.....

If the president gives a formal order to Spencer canceling the panels, the Navy secretary will either carry out the order reluctantly or resign, according to the Post....

It started with Bush I.

Fully agree.

If the military does not obey the civilian authority we are a banana republic. Or I should say, a banana democracy.

Good. I was not referring to the SecNav. I was referring to the current crop of Admirals and Generals on active duty, including the guy in charge of the Navy special warfare people.

Yes he should. Insubordination and disrespect cannot be tolerated. But Trump is oddly hesitant to fire people and/or remove the Obama loyalists who continue to undermine him to this day. And its been no end of problems for him.

President Trump would be well advised to fire the d.bag.
It is pretty obvious this Navy Sec does not have the brains to take a really, really, really strong hint and mend his ways. This guy, left in office, is likely to await opportunity to stab P.Trump in the back.
Guy’s obviously a demigod in his own mind....who does Trump think he is, ordering ME around...gggrrrhhh!!!...this is NOT over!
Watch your back P.Trump, this guy is now your serious enemy and will work behind your back to hurt you.
