Voting for no one other than Trump would have been “purist conservatism”, but I would have sat out the federal election for the first time since I started voting if he were not the nominee.

And you know what? Knowing what I know now about the lot of those “conservative candidates”, it would have been the right thing to do. Voting for anyone of the other amnesty-brigade losers would have been the real travesty.

At some point, you have to make stand. It’s an individual call, but I’ve seen quite a few elections come and go. I’m no going gently into that good night. Your philosophy has its weakness too, namely that we keep settling for incremental leftism. That’s what we got when we were NOT purists.

I would argue that compromise is the deadlier enemy than standing firm. In the words of William Buckley, conservatism is a man standing athwart history yelling Stop. Liberals, leftists and Communists all believe in the historical triumph of their beliefs and the demise of Christianity and Western civilization.

A fast food chain compromising its proclaimed Christian values seems a small matter, but small matters add up. Remember the old adage, For want of a nail, the horseshoe was lost; for want of the horseshoe the horse was lost; for want of a horse, the general was lost; for want of the general the battle was lost.
