Now the community must plan funerals, prepare for the upcoming New Year and try to make sense of the tragedy as police work to identify who is responsible for the latest deadly shooting.

They recently reached several milestones, including opening a museum celebrating Hmong heritage and getting their first council member elected.

Assimilate? no,
They shouldn’t have messed with Yum-Yum...
I can dig some things about those Hmong, for sure. :-)
Knew there would be a Gran Torino reference before I got very far. Free Republic never disappoints! ;-)
Those Hmong’s do that. Happened in Tulsa once.
Don’t get the Hmong’s pissed off, they’ll come shoot you.
They are kind of like Montagnards. They don’t really have a country and come from the mountains between Vietnam and Laos. They are hillbillies.
Here in CA, they are very family oriented and resourceful. They are extremely independent and don’t like authority, which is why they weren’t down with the commies.
They keep the old ways, knives, cooking implements, brooms and things that they brought over. Witchcraft stuff, poaching and polygamy are normal for them. They are super friendly and drink a lot.
I knew all this before I saw that movie but it was a very real portrayal.
LOL
Eastwood recruited real Hmong kids to co-star with him. Neither one of them had ever acted before.
Like almost every other ethnic group which has immigrated here they have their problems with youth gangs.
