Which will fall on deaf ears. The Mr. and Mrs. New Zealand, turn em all in law has already been passed. The only thing I dont know is if the buy-back account has been funded yet. (Its been the lack of funding for the buy-back that accounted for the initial low compliance rate of the ban.)
A ban on center-fire semi-auto rifles has been passed.
Most are not being turned in. (Considerable resistance)
The new law being proposed is an ambitious total fiream registry, and lots more controls.
New Zealand junked its long gun registry in 1983 as cumbersome, ineffective, and expensive.
The National Party (biggest single party in New Zealand) has about 46% of the members of Parliament, and is opposed to the new registration legislation.
It is not a foregone conclusion, yet.
