In Narrow Victory, Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards Reelected For Second Term
The Advocate ^ | 11/16/19

Democratic Gov. John Bel Edwards will win a second term as Louisiana governor, defeating his Republican opponent Eddie Rispone.

Going into Saturday’s runoff election, surveys conducted by pollsters showed the two virtually tied, with few undecideds and neither candidate making significant inroads into the other’s base.

Analysts had predicted the race would come down to who got their supporters to the polls.

Urban ministers, organized labor and African-American politicians worked for the 53-year-old Edwards, who is the only Democratic governor in the Deep South.

Rispone, a 70-year-old businessman making his first run for public office, had President Donald Trump at his side at rallies – along with $2 million and 60 paid staffers sent at the last minute from the Republican National Committee and millions more from the Republican Governors Association – hoping to flip the office to the GOP.

Rarely have presidents been so involved in a state-level race. Trump visited Louisiana three times to rally Republican and rural voters to head to the polls and “fire” Edwards, calling him “a radical.” Trump told Louisiana voters they could send a message to national Democrats that they stood behind him by voting for Rispone.

National groups, such as the Republican Governors Association and the Democratic Governors Association, both based in Washington, D.C., poured about $9 million each into the race. That includes roughly $3 million apiece in the runoff.

Another rigged election.... It is always just enough votes so it does not come across suspicious. Plus it is less fraud votes.

If the Republicans do not get control of the elections, then the Left will steal their way into victory. Oh and this time next year we ill be dealing with Hillary.

Elections integrity and security should priority #1. All this will be meaningless if the Dems can just rig and steal everything.

Rispone, a 70-year-old

There's part of the problem. Are there no younger Conservatives interested in higher office? We need more candidates like the Congresslady Stefanik who are smart and full of vitality.

Looks like the Democrat machine prevailed.

The Republican never ran a race before. The governor was popular and ran as a Republican. Not everyone is Donald Trump

It was probably assumed the Democrat governor would win, so nobody of any gravitas was willing to risk their career over am obvious loss.

Watching (informally) the results through the evening - the Republican had a small but seemingly meaningful lead in the count... all the way until near the end of the count. Sure makes you wonder both WHERE these last precincts were to report - and WHO was counting those votes!

There isn’t going to be a Republican Party if those who control things don’t support the Deplorable Agenda. I’m not impressed that the DC crowd has any interest in stopping corruption in Ukraine, which would be the proper rallying cry to support President Trump through this ordeal. Will folks who think like I do turn against ‘pubs who are too tied to corporate deep pocket interests? Of course.

Sorry that is a B.S. narrative from the Establishment Anti Trumper hacks in the Fake Stream News.

You really need quit falling for every B.S. narrative these clowns come up with. They are certified and well known liars and degenerates. The media are nothing but puppets. Believing you are watching real news is like believing the WWE is real wrestling.

Just answered my own question - It appears East Baton Rouge was the decider - so incredibly lopsided were the “D” results in that Parish...

In New Orleans the dead are buried *above* ground. There’s a reason for that.

Democrats are NOTORIOUS for stealing votes. Going all the way back to 1960 presidential election and Mayor Daley of Chicago.

I think the fact that their was a close primary on the
Republican side meant they were not united backing the winner of that race on election day.

What we need is to primary Collins Murkowsky and other Rinos.

Here it worked against the GOP.

Trump did 2 great rallies but his name was not on the ballot.

It shows blacks are still on the Dem plantation.

Suburban districts are really running hard away from the GOP. Not quite sure what upper middle class educated voters are upset about. Stock market’s up, isn’t that all they care about?

Probably unsurprising, and a long-term result of Hurricane Katrina. A big chunk of New Orleans permanently relocated to Baton Rouge after the hurricane, and quality of life dropped as a result (huge traffic and crime increases). That corruption would increase is probably a given.

Another rigged election.

Nope, elections are more than money, ads, and Presidential rallies. Rispone was a first time candidate, ever. He didn’t do the basic grass roots nug work.

Louisiana is only 58% non-Hispanic white, according to official census.

https://www.census.gov/quickfacts/LA

Add in unreported voting illegals, and you have a majority.

Heavy R areas need to start delaying reporting until enemy areas have all reported. Slow walk it. Remove their ability to know the numbers they need to push over the top. That is exactly what they do to us.
