A whistleblower who works in Project Nightingale, the secret transfer of the personal medical data of up to 50 million Americans from one of the largest healthcare providers in the US to Google, has expressed anger to the Guardian that patients are being kept in the dark about the massive deal.

The maximum civil penalty for knowingly violating HIPAA is $50,000 per violation up to a maximum of $1.5 million per violation category per year.

Google will have passed the personal data of 50 million or more patients in 21 states to Google, with 10 million or so files already having moved across – with no warning having been given to patients or doctors.

Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of self righteous, liberal clowns..... I'm making popcorn and pulling up a chair for the show... it's going to be a thing of beauty.

I’ll eat crow if Google is held accountable. Too much $$$ to be made.

Is it possible that something in one of the tiny font, multiple page documents that we have to AGREE to in order to use apps, people agreed to allowing this transfer of health date to occur?

if this is not -it SHOULD be a HIPIAA violation

If this is not a HPIAA violation-we need to demand of OUR bureaucrat employees in the Forbidden City on the Potomac why it is not-how that came to be

HIPPA doesn’t work that way. Your medical records are protected and ONLY physicians or you that are DIRECTLY in need to access your records for your care are allowed access.

That way a random nurse or med tech can’t rifle through your files even if they have access to your records. They are NOT allowed to look at them.
