REPORT: REDSKINS WILL ATTEND KAEPERNICK WORKOUT. WHY?
Powerline ^ | November14,2019 | PAUL MIRENGOFF

Posted on 11/14/2019 3:26:10 PM PST by Hojczyk

In my post yesterday about Colin Kaepernick’s upcoming NFL workout session, I confessed to not knowing the NFL well enough to opine on whether it makes sense for a particular team to sign Kaepernick. However, there’s one team I know very well — the Washington Redskins.

There is no good reason for the Redskins to sign Kaepernick. They have won just one game this season and, in an optimistic scenario, they might win three.

The rest of the season will be devoted to providing experience for their number one pick in the 2019 draft — quarterback Dwayne Haskins. He will be backed up by two veterans, the reasonably capable Case Keenum and the borderline competent Colt McCoy.

The contracts of Keenum and McCoy expire next year, but Washington has Alex Smith, who is presently injured, under contract through 2022. Smith is the quarterback whom Kaepernick replaced with the San Francisco 49ers. Smith went on to star for Kansas City while Kaepernick failed to hold the San Francisco job.

But don’t take my word for the fact that the Redskins don’t need Kaepernick. Interim head coach Bill Callahan says:

Our situation is full at this juncture right now because of the two veteran quarterbacks we have along with Dwayne. We have three on our roster where generally a lot of teams just carry two on their roster. We’re really carrying one extra quarterback than most teams normally carry.

Yet, the Redskins reportedly will send a representative to attend Kaepernick’s workout on Saturday. Why?

Curiosity? Courtesy to Kaepernick, who played for two of the Redskins’ current assistants in San Francisco? A show of support for Roger Goodell? A show of political correctness for the D.C. fans?

I couldn’t say. I can say that signing Kaepernick makes no sense for the Washington Redskins

Actually that would be the best outcome to hope for. If he signed with the Redskins, then he would look like a total hypocrite. So that’s what I’ll root for

“A show of political correctness for the D.C. fans?”

It took him three tries, but he got it.

The owner —Dan Snyder, iirc ?—is thought of by many as a right-wing redneck, this defuses the flack a bit, especially in DC social circles. He’s defended his teams Redskins name.......OH THE HORROR.

....and from a strictly professional point of view, it makes sense to see what skills are still available in the event QB injury puts a team behind the 8-ball.

Should that happen, they'd then have the info to make a decision, considering the flack fans might give 'em, but then again, it's DC and you heard the Nationals fans in the World Series.

Me being a 49ers fan, I’m actually hoping that another team signs him, just so the media stops showing him in a 49ers uniform.

Snyder playing up to the media, because they ‘ve given him a hard time about Redskins being the name. Snyder is a business man. Terrible football guy, but he makes money.

Anyone notice how the NFL scheduled this Kaepernick stunt right after they had their over the top exhibitions “honoring” veterans. There were huge flags covering the fields, parading uniformed servicemen, special renditions of the national anthem etc etc. Now a few days later they are looking to bring this hatful, divisive, leftist lowlife back into the league. Would not trust the NFL to do be any more decent or honest than the NBA. Soon they will be playing games in China.

I heard that the denver donkeys will have someone there. My guess is that there will be enough video to make a decision whether to go for a further workout. A number of teams would hire the devil if he can throw the feetball long and accurately.

Dwayne Haskins is African American. Not sure that they have anything to prove in that regard. Still, white guilt runs deep...

Many Redskin fans will leabe the team for good if they signed him....They almost left the team before when they said they were interested in him.

The contracts of Keenum and McCoy expire next year, but Washington has Alex Smith, who is presently injured, under contract through 2022.

Just as an aside, Smith is never going to play again. He suffered a gruesome leg injury - a compound fracture I believe - then complications with infections following surgery. He's been out over a year and is thirty-five years old. Keenum and McCoy are strictly stop-gap measures. Kaepernick would be no improvement over them. So in that sense I don't understand going to this workout either.

What a laugh if SJW QB suddenly finds himself a Redskin.
Will he have to boycott his own team?

What is he, three years out of the NFL? I would think he would be done as far as being viable in the NFL now.

The NFL is club where the owners scratch each other’s backs. Kapernick is one of those little nuisance itches that some just can’t resist scratching.

Other club owners will owe a favor to the owner who takes care of the itch.
