Allow me to suggest a clarifying experiment. The next time a state — any state — revisits the question of permitted methods of execution for convicted criminals, some state legislator should offer an amendment stating that any method of killing allowable in the context of abortion is permissible for criminal executions. After all, if a mode of killing innocent children is deemed acceptable, it should be good enough for hardened criminals.
