Democrats gained control of both houses of the Virginia General Assembly Tuesday, tapping strength in the suburbs to consolidate power for the first time in a generation and deliver a rebuke to President Trump.
Several results were still close after polls closed on the most expensive and most-watched Virginia legislative races in years, but Democrats flipped at least two seats in the state Senate and at least five in the House of Delegates to takemajorities in both.
Officials reported unusually high turnout in an electionthat served as an opening salvo in next year’s presidential showdown, a test of Democratic defiance and Republican resolve in the era of Trump.
The sweep completed a dramatic political conversion, from red to blue, of a Southern state on Washington’s doorstep.
Both U.S. Senators, a majority of the congressional delegation and all three statewide office holders are Democrats. The state was carried by Democrats in the last three presidential elections. Republicans have not won a statewide contest since 2009.

IIRC, VA has alwas been very close with the areas cloest to DC having a large chunk of the population and therefore pushing the state Blue. I’m not sure where the flipped seats were, but I suspect they were close to DC.

The DEMs have successfully limited Trump’s ability to have coattails. Not much longer now before the constitutional experiment ceases to exist.

The Southern (or Southwest) part of VA is nothing like the area around the capital.

Gerrymandering, Soros money, illegal immigration, legal immigration, Northeasters moving into northern Virginia, government workers, expansion of government (overflowing of DC and Maryland into the Old Dominion), etc.
In spite of the media BS and lies, it was NOT a rebuke of President Trump.
Virginia is now in the clutches of San Fagsicko on the Potomac.
No doubt Dems will want reparations from Virginians.
