A total of 527 inmates had their sentences commuted Friday, but 65 of them have detainers and will be released later.
In 2016, Oklahoma passed reforms that would turn some low-level felonies into misdemeanors. For example, possession of a small amount of drugs became a misdemeanor, and the threshold for a property crime becoming a felony increased from $500 in property value to $1,000 in value.
Of the hundreds of inmates who had their sentences commuted:
-- The average age is 39.7 years old
-- 75% are men, and 25% are women
-- They had been incarcerated for three years
-- They'll be released an average of 1.34 years early

Does this have anything to do with old style electric motors?
If they were only in for 3 out of the four or so years initially sentenced, they sound like minor drug infractions. I can live with that.
If it turns out they’re Pedophiles or Illegals, then I’ll have a different opinion!
Prisons are Big Business. Someone try to tell me that there’s not Quid Pro Quo between Big Prison and our Legal System - because there HAS to be; the prisons are NEVER empty.
65 have detainers. Id say that means theyre illegal.
L
Well, at least they’re holding them. Send ‘em back!
I wonder what other convictions were on their rap sheets?
My issue with this sort of thing is that the offense is usually pleaded down in exchange for a guilty plea. The incarcerating offense may be a minor drug charge but what was the original offense that resulted in the arrest?
Then again, we arrest with the maximum charge (could its severity be exaggerated to gain traction for a guilty plea?). I suspect that it’s not as simple as being jailed for a minor drug offense.
because there HAS to be; the prisons are NEVER empty.
It was just the dope and property crime laws that had some felonies adjusted to misdemeanors. Rape, pedo filth, assualt, car stealing, major drug possession all were left alone.
and the threshold for a property crime becoming a felony increased from $500 in property value to $1,000 in value.
So if I am a senior on fixed income and can afford a $500 TV and Bob Ass Clown break in and steals it he is charged with a misdemeanor. But if Bob Ass Clown breaks into my neighbors home (he is an accountant) and steals his $1000 TV he is charge with a felony? So my crime is not as important to the Government as my neighbors?
They are releasing THREE TIMES as many men as women?
Where is the fairness in that?
