Illegal bonfire, plea to governor on morning of TxDOT cleanup

Early Monday on the same morning that TxDOT crews planned to start cleaning up underpasses across Austin, many of those experiencing homelessness were awake and gathering their belongings.

“We’ve been up all night,” Andrea Aguilar said.

Aguilar posted a sign to a concrete column that read, “Mr. Abbott!!! Protect the Homeless” and another reading, “We are worth a safe solution.”

Nearby, other homeless people had started an illegal bonfire underneath one of the underpasses. Temperatures overnight dipped down to 54 degrees. A burn ban remains in place in Travis County, but the fire would have been illegal regardless.

The mayor's liberal decree that homeless can camp out anywhere they wish has backfired bigly, lol.

There was an interview this morning with one homeless guy who stated homeless folk are moving to Austin because they can pitch their tents anywhere since the mayor declared everything “public”. He laughed saying Austin has great weather, they can camp anywhere and people give them money and food so there’s nowhere any better.

““I’ll just disappear,” he said. “That’s what they want us to do, be out of their site.””

It is their ‘site’, as it’s state property, but I doubt that was the meaning that either the ILLITERATE reporter, or the homeless frontman meant by that term.

Hmm, fire under an overpass, perhaps Austin can ask Atlanta about how that works out.

“Temperatures overnight dipped down to 54 degrees.”

Note the heart-string tug here, by the media. The temperatures the two nights prior were in the 30s. 54 at night this time of year is EXACTLY normal.

Will Wynn managed to house 4,000+ Katrina refugees here in 2005. Mayor Adlebrain and the rest of the COA council can't (or rather, won't) lift a finger to help with the issue that they have exacerbated back in June.

The incompetence of this city council is epic, and the fact that Adlebrain's 30 year-old toady (Casar) advises him on everything is problematic. Especially since the toady has lived here for 3 whole years and hasn't a clue how the real world works.

Do you happen to have a link to that interview?

Recall this “mayor”, now

Send him to CA or NY.

This is why being homeless in Detroit or Chicago is a whole different animal it’s a whole different world at -20

my mind adjusted for the statement as follows “That’s what they want us to do, be out of their sight.””

Another common delusion of the homeless -- that we are so guilty about their situation that those of us that have been able to somewhat function (or better) in society cannot even stand the sight of the poor homeless persons...

Bollocks. Try explaining property values, aesthetic amenities, and overall quality of life concerns for ones children to a cocker spaniel. You'll get about the same level of comprehension.

Umm, when I’ve been in the Southwest, and it hits 54 degrees, people are still walking around in shorts. Maybe they throw a hoodie on.

Homeless in Chicago don’t even light bonfires when it’s -20. At least, not since they got rid of the metal garbage cans back in the late 80s. Now they either just ride the train all night, or go downtown and sleep next to some hot exhaust vent.

Starting at about 1:40 in this video.....

One man interviewed by Hasine claimed homeless people come from all around the country to live on the streets in Austin because the authorities are lax and there are many incentives, like free food and shelter.

You don’t have to buy food,” he said. “Everybody feeds you. They give you money. You can party. It’s a blast, man.”

It was 28 here two nights late last week-it was 46 here this AM-I wore my usual T-shirt and jeans to work, with a flannel shirt over-I ditched the flannel shirt by 9am-these are normal temperatures in Fall here...

If these homeless people are cold, then they need to get out from under the f’ing bridge and go to a charity facility-there are plenty of them in Austin, home of the weird...
