It's like oil -- another commodity like gold -- the US now holds thanks to Trump the power position in energy stores globally and can -- if it wants to -- allow American energy independence to rule its future productivity and trade relationships (i.e., making Europe dependent upon the US for gas and oil, like in the pre-WWII era, rather than Russia and the Middle East.)
America needs to be in as powerful a position with respect to gold stocks before a conversion to a gold-backed dollar is possible. Otherwise, it will be just like it was when Saudi Arabia held sway over the entire US economy as demonstrated by the oil stoppages in 1973 and 1977 that led to severe US market contractions and loss of US prestige globally.
