How’s the diversity in Japan these days?

They have any problems with that lack of diversity?

“Lack of diversity” is the bad term for having one agreed upon culture. Feel free to celebrate some old customs from yours or your ancestors’ culture, but know that there is ONE dominant culture.

Minato Ward of Tokyo, where my daughter lives, is about 20% non Japanese. Of course, they are there on legal visas because the government carefully vetted them as being contributors to the economy of Japan, diplomatic status, etc.

Americans in Japan actually commit crimes at an even lower rate that native Japanese precisely because they need to meet a high standard to be there at all.

So while there are nice markets, bistros, schools and other businesses to cater to that diversity, the Japanese culture is clearly dominant. And nobody in Minato Ward has a problem with that.

Japan is weakening on the issue due to international pressure, Abe said they were going to allow more guest workers in the country.

Not even Japan is safe anymore.
