The silence of the Repubs in the Senate is deafening. I believe that they may see their change to get rid of Trump and are going to take it since he has disrupted their corrupt “Apple Cart” as well as the Dems.
I believe that they think with a President Pence they can return to the “Old Ways” and the people will forget about this time in history come the next election.
There will be enough Repubs from (what they think are) solid Repub states that they will vote to impeach and assume they will win reelection, allowing other Repubs from swing stats to vote against impeachment. If/when they lose the Senate, they will be comfortable being the Minority again so long as they get a few scraps from the dems.
I really do believe they think this will blow over when Trump is kicked out and they will only suffer minor damage.
The Repubs retiring are doing so in order to keep their “campaign funds” and live high off the hog since they believe they know the Senate will vote to impeach, and they would lose their reelection ... why piss away a nice warchest of money on a losing battle.

If they fail in the impeachment Trump should campaign for their opponents. Imagine Trump appearing at campaign rallies for the opponents of Democrats that narrowly won their seats in 2018. Pick, say, 25 and target them for destruction. Then about 3-4 senators.
If a civil war ever does come, and, I do not believe it will come...the Democrats will be politically destroyed in the Senate immediately. But...should it come...the last thing I would ever want to be is a Democrat. Why? Millions of firearms among the American people, the Democrats bad mouth the LEOs, the Cops, the Police, the Military, 100%....no, I would not want to be an open mouthed Democrat....ever!!!
However...what is really happening in the political world is that Nancy Pelosi has been forced to play her “Hail Mary Pass Card” using the scum & vermin, Schiff, Nadler, etc. Pelosi is betting the entire future life of the Democrat Party on her forced gambit. Trump will win and the Democrat Party will be politically dead in the water. Remain cool folks ....Pelosi and the whole Democrat Party is in full self-destruct mode. They are going down come the election of 2020. And...if that does not happen...believe me you do not want to be a Democrat out in the open with a big mouth!!! Obama, Clinton, Pelosi have brought this on themselves.
They should have just accepted the Trump election in 2016 and took on rebuilding the party to something that works with and for the American people...Sadly they do not have a clue!!! Go, Trump....Go, GOP...Go MAGA!!!

The GOP controlled Senate has had over 3 years to “discover” this coup. They’ve shown no interest in doing that so far. That won’t be changing in a Senate trial. POTUS can call his own witnesses but he’ll be flying solo there, again.

The Senate has no dog in the fight. There is no point in bitching and whining which is all the Senate could do. That is all the House is really doing.
The Senate knows that the Trump Administration has control and will destroy the Coup in totality when it so desires.

No. Senate controls the actual impeachment trial.
Once we are in control the witnesses listed above can be called and compelled to testify under oath.
This is why they’ll never actually impeach Trump. But they want to blame Republicans for stopping it.
We want Democrats on the actual record voting to impeach so we can target those in purple districts. We want the trial in the Senate to bring out evidence of the coup plotters.

The subject was inaction by the Senate to date that would have accomplished little or nothing.
What you have noted is future action that will be beneficial and resolve the issue in the President’s favor
