Comediens with a brain see first hand what this cancel culture is doing to their livelihood. Read a story in the UK that before a comedian can play a club they have to fill out a contract describing what material is deemed offensive and not allowed. Not much left

Liberals used to virtue signal by claiming to love Lenny Bruce’s humor. (Personally, I don’t think liberals have a sense of humor.) But I think he’d be persecuted even more today than back in his day. His 'nigger' routine would have literally caused their heads to explode.

There was a lot of debate over which was going to be the 1st and 2nd Amendments. They finally settled on the nonviolent option being The 1st and the 2nd to be the ultimate backup device.

Bernstein was a secret member of the Communist Party. I guess after Tom Wolfe's 1970 piece in New York Magazine, "Radical Chic," Lenny's pie-in-the-sky Marxism wasn't much of a secret. But your distinction is important. Being an actual member of the Party was considered kind of low-class among Leftists then. Not that they disagreed with anything the ACP said, but the actual members were low-rent people of no particular social connections, and hence didn't throw any nice parties.
Can anyone imagine New York running such an article now?
