So, what’s your definition?

The 22 hornet is not, as it runs around 35k psi, the 30/378 Wtherby is, as it to runs at 65k psi per SAAMI.

The 762x39 is maybe, at around 40k...

The 45/70 is not, (unless loaded to modern firearm levels), but has more KE than quite a few small to medium bored CF HP rounds....

"There is little reason to doubt it. The AR-15 platform, and several other designs, use the barrel or a barrel extension to lock the bolt to the barrel. This allows the barrel and bolt to contain the pressure generated by the fired cartridge. Because the receiver is not part of the system containing the pressure, it does not need to be made of high strength materials."

The article states it was fired once.

I see that thing as being mostly a substitute for a wooden stock.

Pretty much.

It is a high intensity cartridge, regarding the pressures generated. That’s what they are talking about. 55k to 60k psi compared to 12-30k for a pistol cartridge.

They’re not talking about power, they are speaking of a 3D printed rifle capable of handling normal rifle pressures, not the lower pistol pressures.

Yes, but they cheated, the 3-D printed parts never see the high pressure, that's still in the machined metal parts.

Odd how no one mentions 3D printed plastic land mines...

You know, out of x-ray transparent plastic? Reasonably sure they would be illegal under the Geneva Accords, but civil wars tend to create...

They don’t show up on a metal detector either. Let’s not talk about it...
