The Big Bang Theory analyzed it, and determined that the outcome would have been exactly the same (dead Nazis when they opened the Ark), if he wouldn't have been in the movie at all....

Saw that episode.
The purpose of the film was to watch the swashbuckling Dr Jones. The Nazi plot were secondary.
