State senators on Tuesday removed exceptions for rape and incest from a bill that bans abortions roughly six weeks after conception, potentially setting up a conflict with the House, which approved the exceptions earlier this year after contentious debate.
Senators in committee voted 4-3 to strike the exceptions, as proposed by Sen. Richard Cash, R-Powdersville, the chamber’s most ardent abortion foe. Another 4-3 vote advanced the measure to the full Medical Affairs Committee.
The bill, H.3020, would make it illegal to get an abortion in South Carolina after a fetal heartbeat has been detected, which occurs five to eight weeks into most pregnancies.
As he offered his amendment, Cash acknowledged the issue is divisive but said he had to stick to his values.
“While there are no easy answers in such a situation, there are right answers,” Cash said.
Opponents called the measure a further transgression against the rights of those women and girls who have been victims of a brutal crime.

If you believe abortion is wrong even if a woman doesn’t want the baby, I’m not sure why so many people seem to think rape or incest would suddenly make it okay. Can we randomly gun down people born from incest or rape in the streets?
The only legislative solution is a constitutional amendment.
Indeed, its highly illogical. What guilt does the fetus have in these crimes? Its like the punishment for a bank robbery being to kill all the customers of the bank who happened to be there at the time.

I’m not sure why you think that no exception for rape and incest is a politically viable position. Or maybe you just want to virtue signal about it like these politicians.
I’m not saying it is, I’m just saying the idea behind rape/incest exceptions doesn’t make sense to anybody who actually thinks about it for a minute.
The left has been very successful using incrementalism.

Because it’s a trap. Leaving out exceptions for rape and incest are a poison pill that no one will swallow. Take what victory you can get.
Poor politicians. We are on to their tricks and don’t trust a one of them.
People who believe abortion is wrong as killing babies is wrong; these people (like me) think that killing a baby who was conceived due to rape or incest ISN’T okay.
The sop is for those who are pro-abortion.
2% to 3% of abortions are due to one of 5 reasons:
1. Incest
2. Rape
3. Danger to Mother’s health
4. possibility of Mother’s death
5. possibility of the baby having a potentially deadly disability (yeah, this is used to kill Down’s syndrome babies)
This is proved by Poland which, until the 1990s, had very open abortion laws (under the commies). but then implemented strict laws allowing only the above 5. Now we had some pro-life groups trying to prevent abortions for incest and rape, but the backlash threatened to make ALL abortions legal. So we didn’t push this.
Pro-abortion folks use incest and rape and mother’s health as reasons to legalize the 96% to 99% of all abortions that are NOT due to that.
I support leaving the pro-abortionists the sop of killing babies due to rape and incest to prevent them winning the legalization that will kill the 99% to 96% of others.
The thing is - the exceptions that the left uses to justify abortions are: babies due to incest, rape and pregnancies that threaten a mother’s health/life.
If we as pro-lifers say “ok, we’ll give you those five” then they have ONLY the argument “we want to kill a baby because”
We can’t even get the Left to give up killing babies because of non-life threatening birth defects.
Even the “wrong genitalia” (”But I wanted a BOY”) is acceptable to kill a child for the Left.
Discrimination against Americans based on sex, skin color, and disabilities are “ok”. Make the Left own it. They advocate killing girl babies, black babies, and those with Down Syndrome.
It’s acceptable to the most leftists lefties. But other people try to justify this by saying “oh but we need to allow only for incest etc.” — I’m saying remove that plank.
and i’m basing it on our pro-life experience here in Poland. Better to let the left murder 1000 babies rather than 100,000.
Why should the innocent party be executed because of the behavior of one or more other individuals?
