BAGHDAD/PRINCE SULTAN AIR BASE, Saudi Arabia (Reuters) - U.S. forces that crossed into Iraq as part of a pull-out from Syria do not have permission to stay and can only be there in transit, the Iraqi military said on Tuesday.
U.S. Defense Secretary Mark Esper said, however, that Washington aimed eventually to bring the troops withdrawing from Syria back to the United States.
The Iraqi military statement contradicted the Pentagons announcement that all of the nearly 1,000 troops withdrawing from northern Syria are expected to move to western Iraq to continue the campaign against Islamic State militants and to help defend Iraq.
All U.S. forces that withdrew from Syria received approval to enter the Kurdistan Region so that they may be transported outside Iraq. There is no permission granted for these forces to stay inside Iraq, the Iraqi military said.
Esper said Washingtons objective was for the troops not to remain in Iraq.

So it takes a few months for transportation red tape to be settled. Then again, toss them the keys and tell them to call the ‘yewwwwwww’ next time there’s a kerfuffle in the area. Let the mighty ‘yewwwwww’ army take care of it.
Well, bye.
Our allies.....
I guess we can pull back out of Iraq then. They don’t need us anyway, been a long time since someone try to invade and hold territory.
Hi.
“do not have permission to stay and can only be there in transit, the Iraqi military said on Tuesday.”
Never ask for permission, only ask for forgiveness.
5.56mm
Then we should pack up and leave with all our troops, let them handle their own security.
(That would be best for us anyway)
In reading this article remember Syria has been a client state of Russia since around 1980. Russian “advisors” have been embedded within Syrian military for more than a generation. (not since Trump took over the WH as some in the media will imply)
Also, Turkey will resettle two million of their 3.6 million Syrian refugees in the new buffer zone.
Ceasefire ends today.
Erd and Putin have agreed to terms very much as Trump wanted.
Joint Turk/ Russian patrols in SDF area to move SDF fighters 30 KM away.
Looks good, but Idlib is the key.
Also, what happens in the very most NE area: Kurds home.
Ha!
Report that far NE area will be controlled by Syria/Russia- NOT Turkty.
Who asked the Iraqis?
Or not.
Who asked the Iraqis?
The Iranians jerked their chain (the Iraqis).
