Ones mans lynching is anothers Justice. In Germany or Britain murderers are treated to less than 10 years of prison. In America, it takes 2-3 years before a trial date is set if someone has the audacity to choose a jury trial. If you have money, you get off like Epstein with punishment similar to a DUI for child trafficking. There simply is not any justice in the Justice system. What are those who supposed to be served by their servants to do?
Demand more of those public servants. Vote for people who will reform the criminal justice system. Expand the courts to insure speedy trials. The answer is never mob law and vigilante "justice" and it's disturbing to see so many people cheering for just that.
I read a book about crime and justice in frontier Los Angeles not long ago (Eternity Street by John Mack Farragher--highly recommended), and they had similar complaints. The leading citizens formed a Vigilance Committee and took matters into their own hands. The problem was that once they had established that precedent there was no stopping it. Those same leading citizens soon became appalled by the sheer number of lynchings being done by others. The owner of the local corral took down the crosspiece above the gate because so many people were being hanged from it. The whole thing came to a climax in 1871 when the mobs lynched about 20 Chinese men, including a doctor who was the leader of the Chinese community, after a policeman was injured.
