But saints are not without guilt

I think that's the biggest drawback to church attendance right there. So much of the focus is on guilt-tripping people and convincing them they are worthless scum. People should leave church filled with joy. Instead they leave thinking they are lower than worm spit. "But the good news is we have an 8 step program to lift you above worm spit! And if you sign up early it's only $99!"

Uhh, no. The Good News is Jesus died for my poor decisions so I don't have to feel lower than worm spit and He did it for free! So I'm going to go with that plan.

Amen. With Calvary in view, God doesn’t lay on guilt trips - but grace trips - all He did on the cross brought all of us into His marvelous grace and mercy, to where He is our “all-in-all” and everything we need.

And being bathed in and experiencing His infinite love does not lead us into licentiousness, but into righteousness and holiness - the kind that glorify God and exalt Him - and into showing His love to others......

Sorry, I don’t think I agree with anything in this. But I understand the sentiment.

When I was a kid, in Richmond, VA in the post WW II years, my family would go to church on Sunday, then go to a Morrison’s Cafeteria for lunch and then, on nice days, go “to ride,” as my mother would say, in the country. We drove all over Virginia in a 1937 Ford two-door sedan.

After we moved to the country in 1951, we discontinued Sunday rides - we were already in the country!

We restarted that “tradition” after we moved to Florida, and continued it until I went off to college in 1959 - maybe not every Sunday, but most Sundays.

Was kinda neat, as I recall. A tradition I was not able to replicate with my own family - first ex-wife and kids were not interested in going “to ride” in the country on Sunday afternoon - too many other distractions.

Oh, well!
