One of my relatives was an economic adviser in the State Dept. working on deals with other countries, his whole career. He was stationed to U.S. Embassy posts all over the world during his career. A brilliant man who spoke 7 languages, he was a total lefty his whole working life, and his fellow State Dept. counsels, advisers, diplomats, worker bees were for the most part also total lefties.
We argued politics via email after he retired (he lived in Virginia where many retired State Department employees live) and he spoke the liberal party line until the day he died. We also suspected he was a spy for the State Dept. when placed in various country embassies. The State Dept. is infested with Dems/Socialists/Commies/Pinkos/Fascists/Libs throughout its halls. It needs to be fumigated from top to bottom.
Many of the more minor employees are appointments and/or fans of Obama. After all, the pool of Civil Service employees the gov’t departments hire from live primarily in liberal Wash. D.C. and its environs. The State Dept. is a total combo of Deep State and Swamp simultaneously.
I’m sure Pompeo is well aware of this, and he will be fighting internal resistance to Trump’s policies and undermining and subterfuge by his own employees throughout his term. The deeply buried and impregnated throughout liberal bureaucracy consisting of lifer career employees are really running the show in this country, and they are all global socialists.
It reminds me of ancient Rome when for a period of time there was a huge turnover of Emperors due to assassinations, coups, etc. and it was the bureaucracy that provided continuity and held the gov’t together, basically running the levers of State. In our U.S. these bureaucrats are unfortunately the deep Swamp, riddled with socialists, and running the show by subterfuge.
Folks, read post # 11 above by Flaglady47 for a brilliant analysis of our State Department. It's 100% accurate. Like Flaglady, I also had an inside-the-State Department connection going way back in years.
People think that now that Pres. Trump (along with Secy. Pompeo) is in office that the State Dept. has been cleansed. It has NOT....and a firmly-entrenched cadre of dedicated Far-Left career staff and employees are still sabotaging the President and our country in every covert way they can...and they've been doing it for ages, going back to the fifties, even earlier.
Remember, (and you all know the problem) no one can willy-nilly fire federal employees (many careerists have been working there for 3 or more decades).....so President Trump and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo have my thoughts and prayers every day that they can successfully deal with and root out internal sabotage in State.
Remember, the Deep State is a Dark Swamp, with crocodiles, reptiles and other dangerous creatures slithering around and under the murky mud and mire...and State is one of the darkest black pools in the Swamp, not only in Washington DC but in its embassies and offices around the globe.

If President Trump in in office for eight years he’ll get to make many also.
I have little doubt that the entire DC bureaucracy, and not just the State dept, is full of liberals. Because liberals love big gov’t and gov’t jobs. Conservatives are found more in the entrepreneur class, and hard working employees in private sector.
It is extremely difficult task to clean house of party hacks from the federal bureaucracy. As we all know it is not easy to fire gov’t workers. But it behooves for the president and the various department heads to at least purge the top level employees loyal to previous admins.
