Mark Levin blasts Democrats, media for attacking Mick Mulvaney: 'It's so absurd'

Acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney said nothing wrong or incriminating during a widely criticized news conference, according to radio host Mark Levin.

The former South Carolina Republican congressman's exchange with the White House press corps was just the latest example of the media defending Democrats in trying to push a Trump-Ukraine narrative, Levin claimed Thursday on "The Mark Levin Show" on Westwood One.

"Of course the media and the Democrats are seizing on something he said," Levin said. "Every day, it's something else to prove there was a quid pro quo. It's so absurd."

"Of course the media and the Democrats are seizing on something [Mulvaney] said. Every day, it's something else to prove there was a quid pro quo. It's so absurd."

Levin then played clips of reporters grilling Mulvaney over President Trump and Ukraine.

Levin, who also hosts Fox News' "Life, Liberty & Levin," later said Mulvaney was trying to explain that Trump was simply asking Ukraine to investigate potential wrongdoing during the 2016 U.S. presidential election -- and not probe any alleged wrongdoing by former Vice President Joe Biden or his son Hunter Biden.

"There's an investigation going on, going back to 2016 and even before," Levin said, "by a U.S. attorney and by the attorney general, looking into the early aspects of the phony Russia collusion issue and Ukraine -- and that's what [Mulvaney was] talking about -- not Biden."

"And, [Mulvaney] is saying to this reporter, who's not really getting it, 'The president can't say to another country, we want you to cooperate with this investigation? It's done all the time.'

"There is an investigation going on with the Department of Justice, we all know this -- Bill Barr announced it," Levin later added.

“Why is this a scandal? Why is this a problem? It’s not,” Levin said. “Why are the media so defensive of the Democrats and the Democratic Party? Why aren’t they calling for a special counsel to investigate it like they did with Russia and Trump?”

The constitutional attorney continued, explaining that Mulvaney was referencing a May meeting at which Trump questioned why the U.S. should give funds to Ukraine, alleging the country has a history of governmental corruption.

Trump was also concerned that European countries were not offering any assistance on that front, Levin added.

“There is nothing wrong with any of this — nothing,” he said, claiming Joe Biden’s name did not come up in the May meeting.

“They’re not even listening,” he said of the reporters questioning Mulvaney.

Sounds like Levin is right. Yes Trump asked Ukraine to cooperate in the DOJ/Barr/Durham investigation into the origins of the Russia Hoax. And he has every right to ask for their cooperation.

And, the previous Ukrainian government absolutely interfered in the 2016 election. Trump is right to ask for any information. And it’s so backwards that the Dems demanded full transparency from Barr and Mueller but then want to run these hearings in secret. They are sick in the head.

And Biden made his own bed here. Biden is the one who bragged publicly that he blackmailed Ukraine and obstructed justice threatening to withhold $1B. Biden admits to the quid pro quo. I cannot believe anyone falls for this projection and turnabout by the Dems in the House. Trump has every right to investigate that, and any other kind of corruption by high officials. Not only every right - I want him and all POTUS to do the same. Corrupt politicians should go to prison. They should be investigated. Otherwise, all you have to do is be a corrupt politician and run for the nomination of a political party and suddenly you’re ‘immune’? Nonsense!

These Dems are desperate. They are certainly fundraising on this. They are certainly trying to placate and motivate their base. They are trying to protect their incumbents from left wing challengers like AOC. But most of all they are trying to create the narrative in advance of the reports that will come from Horowitz and Durham. I sure hope they pull no punches. Criminals operating under color of authority deserve double the sentence of common criminals.

There is nothing new here at all. Ukraine nor any other country has a “right” to aid. The POTUS, any POTUS, has the right to withhold aid to countries that are acting against our interests; or until they receive assurances that the recipients are acting prudently.

Trump cancelled aid to the several Palestinian groups because they are using the money to pay terrorists and families of terrorists and teaching Jew hatred in their media and schools. He withheld money from the UN. He withheld money from many other groups and governments. In the case of Ukraine, they just had an election and Trump is 100% in the right to have paused the flow of money until he could speak with the Ukrainian president and get assurances that he would be acting in the interests of justice and honest governance. Nearly all the witnesses in this case openly admit that Ukraine has a history as one of the most corrupt places on earth. So why should we just hand them piles of money? Why not get assurances that they will be more transparent and just before sending the check? It’s just common sense.

This whole thing is kabuki theater. Kudos to the Dems and their media lackies for well orchestrated stage management but I think the American people are smart enough to see through this BS.

Thanks for posting...

I watched the press conference live and loved every minute of it...

Then soon after I see all this crap from the media like usual and I am thinking wow, I did not hear it that way at all! It feels like they are reporting on an alternate universe half the time. They never showed clips they were quoting and I did not have any reason to go find it, because it is so typical, they just twist things around to fit their narrative every single time, and even Hannity piled on tonight I read.

Mick Mulvany had an outstanding press conference that I just heard most of on CSPAN...He just slammed those biased, idiot reporters who can only think anything Trump does must be illegal or wrong, even though he is President of the United States and his authority is encompassing of talking to foreign gov’ts...He answered the last question about “transferring the call to a private server”. And he beautifully put it “if this administration wanted to “cover up their actions” why would they release the transcript to the publication? Cut that reporter off at the knees! I highly encourage anyone to go to YouTube and type in Mick Mulvaney pressed 10.17.2019...

I second that... Sitting here working tonight and listening to Rush’s podcast... He is talking about how great the call was too right now!

I read the whole transcript of Mulvaney’s presser. He did great. He should do more.

I watched Mick’s press conference yesterday. He was as good at handling the rabid pack of wolves as anybody. He answered everyone’s questions except CNN’s. It ended hilariously!

When are the arrests?

Good question.

Mark Levin does not have prosecutors or police officers working for him. His powers of arrest are no greater than yours.

So you'll have to direct your question to someone who does control prosecutors and investigators and police officers. Such people usually hold elective office in the executive branch of some government.

My only comment is “I’ll have more flexibility after the election.” “I’ll tell Vladimir”.

It’s patently obvious after 3 years of Deep State obstruction and flat out coupist behavior that POTUS has little control of the DOJ on substantive issues. If you want to blame the victim of an ongoing coup go ahead. I won’t be.

< shrug >

The question was "When are the arrests?"

Arrests are made by sworn peace officers or federal law enforcement agents. Who's in charge of them?

Direct the question "When are the arrests?" to those with the power and authority to order or make arrests.

You can piss and moan about the "deep state" all you like, but the buck still stops with the President.

Just stating the facts at hand. Trump supporters are jailed. Trump’s picks are blocked by the GOP Senate. DNI, AG, etc. There is an ongoing coup against him that is hamstringing his admin and provably bipartisan in nature.

It seems you have an intense dislike of POTUS for some reason. Loser Cruzer by chance? Primaries are over. Time to get over them.

Yes, that's exactly what I'm doing.

It seems like you have problems comprehending the English language, and worse problems with logical thought. Please educate yourself, or seek help from someone capable of educating you.

Was Trump’s DNI pick just rejected by his own party or not? That is a fact. POTUS provably does not have a free hand on these issues. He is under treasonous assault and ungrateful voters like you don’t care one bit.

Your hatred of Trump is amusing. No doubt your preferred beltway career politician could do a better job. Good day.

No it isn't a scandal however, we can see how muddled the facts can get if you you watched the Ingraham Angle last evening October, 17, 2018, you saw Laura, Richard (?) and another lawyer...making three lawyers...Laura and the grey haired man had the facts straight and Richard did not but argued for his point of view....it was a striking moment with two telling the facts and one who insisted on his mistaken view.

Muddy waters? You bet....this is how the MSM goes about writing the news, rather creating the news....I try to find the text of what was said...the actual words spoken by who-ever.....
