NYT needs to give the NBA some cover. They know that the American public and even NBA fans won’t kowtow to China at least right now.
Now if NYT felt that America was ready to accept Chinese hegemony, they would be out there cheering the commies.
The NYT takes the LSE, Fabian socialist approach; just shift the Overton window a little bit towards totalitarianism without going too far too fast.
Nothing gets into that paper by accident. They always have their agenda and they are more sophisticated than wapo or the dumbed down cable outlets.
