From an issue standpoint 'emoluments' is kind of hard to explain. Lining your pocket at government expense by holding the G7 at your own property is a whole lot easier to make campaign ads over.
Whats the campaign ad going to say? “Trump hosted the G7 at his Mara Lago estate. Good deals were struck.” Not sure I see the downside.
I tend to agree. This is one move that has clear blow-back potential. I think he is pushing the limits to see what he can get away with. I think the optics are poor on this, but I expect I am in the small minority here.
