Bitcoin is still poised to be an alternative currency for the future. Its use for illegal transactions shouldn’t change that.

That is why if criminal actions such as this can be done it will put Bitcoin in a better light.

Correction: If the IRS can do actions that end crimes such as this, it will put Bitcoin in a better light.

Not exactly, its design makes it limited in the rate of transactions. ie. only so many can happen at a time. So, if they get busy, it has happened that secondary markets have arisen for getting transactions done quicker and hence a “fee”. That rules out so called micro transactions - someone isn’t going to spend $2.00 to make a 20 cent purchase. Well, some people I know might.

There are other cryptocurrencies that have been designed to get around these problems.
