They were an extremely important ally under the separation of mosque and state established by Mustafa Kemal in the 20s. But they are fully islamized now and never going back. That means their alliance with us is in name only. They stand completely athwart our purposes and are ready to backstab us every chance they get.
So I value your opinion and simply assert a very different one. Our two perspectives vary quite a lot.

What nobody has brought up— the US is energy independent, this alone make the Middle East is no longer concern for us. Yes we need to protect some of the interest, like Isreal, and Iran nukes. But fighting the tribal wars like we have been doing is stupid. Let Russia Syria and Turkey fight this war. This is, and has been their playground.
I think the only people that care about Syria are the people in DC. Do they really care about the Kurds that much? Or is their something else. I’m betting the latter.
