A preliminary 4.8 magnitude earthquake struck about 21 miles east of Salinas Tuesday afternoon, according to the USGS.

Further information was not immediately available.

I checked earlier and it was a 4.8 but they’ve downgraded to a 4.7.

Depends on your definition of ‘close proximity’. Not sure if you can get to the link. I just find it interesting that they’re calling it a ‘preliminary’ quake. Sounds like they’re expecting a bigger one soon.
