Dispatched to Mideast, Pence says U.S. won’t ‘tolerate’ Turkish attacks on Kurds
PBS News Hour ^ | Oct 14, 2019 6:52 PM EDT | Associated Press

"Vice President Mike Pence says he’s being dispatched to the Middle East by President Donald Trump as U.S. troops pull out of northeast Syria and Turkish forces invade.

Pence says Trump spoke with Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan earlier Monday and called for an immediate end to Turkey’s moves against the Kurds in Syria.

Pence says the president is “very concerned about instability in the region” and is denying that Trump gave Turkey the green light to launch the invasion when he announced a troop pullout.

Pence says the U.S. is “simply not going to tolerate Turkey’s invasion of Syria any longer.”

Trump has slapped new sanctions on Turkey to pressure the country to halt an invasion that has opened the door to a resurgence of the Islamic State group."

Having been chastised by the liberals for pulling out.
He will now be scorned by them no matter what he does.
As he knew they would.
It’s time the gloves came OFF.
Stand America!

We don’t need to tolerate them. The Syrian Army & Russian Air Force hit the Turk’s Jihadist proxies today with artillery & air strikes. They will now behave & stop attacking Kurds beyond the zone allocated to them.

You sure as heck won’t find out what is going on with any American media. You need to look elsewhere.

Like I said yesterday “If Erdogan really wants to fight a Russian proxy ... get out of the way!”

I assume that Turkey being an “ally” means that we are sending them money. Maybe this means that they get cut off.

What the hell did he think would happen when we moved our troops out of the area? Turkey is not our friend. Erdogan is an Islamist and wants to recreate the Ottoman Empire. Most of the foreign ISIS fighters entered Syria through Turkey. The Turks could have stopped them but they wanted ISIS to weaken Syria and give them an excuse to invade. In addition most people do not realize that there are thousands of Christians in the area as well. The Turks are already experienced in genocide against Christians.
Let’s not encourage them to try again.

According to the source you gave, it sounds to me that President Trump asked President Erdogan to begin negotiations with the Kurds.

That is an interesting way to interpret statements like these from the article ...

Erdogan is now urgently asking for the U.S. to mediate peace negotiations with Kurdish forces. ... Erdogan called the White House requesting an urgent phone call with President Trump. ... As a result of that conversation, Erdogan requested the U.S. mediate negotiations.

I watched the video of Pence speaking. Pence said it was President Trump who asked President Erdogen to negotiate with the Kurds.

Has anyone seen confirmation of the article claiming that Erdogan has asked Trump to mediate discussions with the Kurds?

Yes Pence is heading for the Mideast.
Yes the phone calls probably took place.
Yes the sanctions are going to be put in place.
But the Erdogan request for U.S. mediation of meetings with the Kurds.

Big claim by the usually reliable Conservative Treehouse. Here is the where they make the claim in today’s article.

”... After President Trump talked to Kurdish General Mazloum Kobani Abdi, the commander of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces, President Trump then discussed the options available to President Erdogan. As a result of that conversation, Erdogan requested the U.S. mediate negotiations. Vice-President Mike Pence announces he will be traveling to the region with National Security Advisor Robert O’Brien to lead that effort.

I know this is probably a long shot...a really long shot...but what if...

He pull's out of Syria. (Done)
He knows Turkey will attack. (Done)
He puts economic sanctions on them. (Done)
Pisses Turkey off, they increase their attacks. (In progress?)
Trump up's the economic sanctions and a major big time rift forms between the U.S. and it's NATO "alley" Turkey.
Trump escalates to the other NATO allies to show how terrible Turkey is.
Eventually, Turkey is booted from the NATO alliance due primarily to U.S. pressure (i.e. monetary, and military)

Granted, he campaigned on getting us out of the myriad of foreign entanglements, but what if he's thinking several steps ahead. Trump has shown to be a very strategic "outside of the box" thinker with enough will to follow through.

The Syrian Army & Russian Air Force hit the Turk’s Jihadist proxies today with artillery & air strikes.

Where do people get this stuff? The only airstrikes are being conducted by Turkey. Russia has not engaging Turkey at all, and SAA is just arriving into the combat zone. Turkey is widening the invasion, and the CTH piece claiming Erdogan is begging for US led talks is fake news. It would be great if true, but it's just not.

I wonder how long it’ll take the media to figure out that the purpose of Turkey’s invasion was to give them some land to move hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees out of Turkey and back home to Syria? I suppose they’re saving the “evil orange man hates the poor homeless refugee” stories until they’ve exhausted the “evil orange man hates Kurds” fiction.

It’s a twofer.

Maybe you, and all the other shark=jumping, hand-wringing, panties-in-a-bunch concern trolls should pay more attention to articles that aren't generated by PBS....
