To go beyond that and openly worship Satan is an evil act, and in my opinion, those are not the kind of people we want as leaders within our military. They don't worship Satan. They'll tell you that they don't believe in a literal Satan and the only people who do are Christians.

I believe in this particular case, it was just a matter of the meeting in question not going through proper channels for approval.

Surprise! Those who build a successful culture get to prefer their cultural and religious outlook over those that would destroy it.
Dont like it? Go build ones own successful civilization. California and Venezuela are waiting!

Do you disagree that the provision applies to denominational preference that would not apply to religions that practiced human sacrifice or, say, polygamy?

I believe they would make the same argument about Christianity in the military. Despite its flaws, Christianity, and those who practice it can point to many good works throughout history. The belief in Jesus Christ as a savior has given many dying soldiers, sailors and airmen comfort as they breathed their last breaths.
The same cannot be said for Satanists.
