The Washington Free Beacon recently learned that senior editor Bill Gertz entered into a previously undisclosed financial transaction with an individual or an affiliate of that individual whom Mr. Gertz had covered in some of his reporting.
Upon learning about this transaction, the Washington Free Beacon promptly asked Mr. Gertz for his resignation and that resignation was received and accepted. The Washington Free Beacon has appended this disclaimer to all of Mr. Gertzs affected news stories.

Is the Washington Free Beacon conservative?
During 1996 Gertz reported in the Washington Times on Chinese sales of nuclear technology to Pakistan. In 1997 he reported on Russian aid to Iran’s nuclear weapon program, based on information given him by the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad.
In 1998 he reported on United States sale of missile technology to China.[10] In 2004, Gertz wrote that Syria, possibly with the aid of Russian troops, transferred Iraqi weapons of mass destruction stockpiles to its own military installations.
Gertz’s 2000 book, The China Threat: How the People’s Republic Targets America, presented the case that China’s military was more modern and powerful than was its reputation in the United States military and intelligence communities
His 2002 book, Breakdown: How America’s Intelligence Failures Led to Sept. 11, examined the activities of United States intelligence agencies prior to the 2001 terrorist attacks.
His 2004 book, Treachery: How Americas Friends and Foes Are Secretly Arming Our Enemies, accused United States allies, including France and Germany of helping to arm terrorists.
His 2008 book, The Failure Factory: How Unelected Bureaucrats, Liberal Democrats, and Big Government Republicans Are Undermining America’s Security and Leading Us to War, said that many federal bureaucrats hold liberal views on foreign policy.

It will be interesting to hear Bill’s side of this.
I’m sorry to hear this. I used to read everything he wrote for the Washington Times.
The website is financially backed by Paul Singer, an American billionaire hedge fund manager and conservative activist.
The Free Beacon was founded by Michael Goldfarb, Aaron Harrison, and Matthew Continetti, (Bill Kristol’s son-in-law).
According to an October 27, 2017, article in The New York Times, the initial sponsor of anti-Trump opposition research conducted by the controversial Washington D.C. firm Fusion GPS was The Washington Free Beacon, a conservative political journalism website that is “funded in large part” by Singer.
Compare to NBC bimbo who slept with leaker of classified info and NYT writer who basically traded sex for stories.
Litmus test: was it pro or anti Trump’s candidacy?
So its now a liberal site.
Does being Anti Trump mean one is liberal?
I am pro Trump.
Washington.
Lincoln.
Reagan.
Trump.
The Washington Free Beacon has fired one of its top reporters after discovering a financial transaction the reporter had with someone he covered, the site announced on Friday. The reporter, Bill Gertz, was recently accused of having worked on behalf of a Chinese billionaire, Guo Wengui, who has been at the center of a recent high-profile legal dispute.
Fugitive Chinese tycoon Guo Wengui has US$1.1 billion of assets frozen by Hong Kong court
I’ve posted the founders and a major funder.
Draw your own conclusions.
No.
Thanks.
Bill has been the gold standard for national security reporting. This is very sad.
Ok Thank you.
My hero growing up was Joe Paterno. He ended up getting what he deserved. We need to be our own worst critics. Dan Rather didn’t apologize. Doubled down.
I wonder how they found out. And how much are we talking. Like loaned him $20 until his debit card came in the mail?
“Does being Anti Trump mean one is liberal?
I am pro Trump.”
Then you are a smart conservative, patriotic American
Isn’t that interesting after Shep Smith being walked out. Wonder how many others are about to be given the boot.
