The average home solar system isn’t working either. That was another “surprise”. Solar panels, in order to get tax credits and the rest of it, are often connected in such a way that electrical power is fed into the grid. It makes the power meter run “backwards” so to speak, or run slower for lack of a better term. But the solar panels are useless in isolation, they are very much dependent on the grid and may have difficulty in a power outage. They aren’t standalone or “off grid” setups afaik.
Quite interesting in Musks post was his mention of battery module replacements. The CEO stated that current Model 3 battery modules should last 300,000 to 500,000 miles, which is the equivalent of 1,500 cycles. After this, the battery modules could be replaced, and it will cost roughly $5,000 to $7,000.

WELCOME TO REALITY.
Yep, and all food comes from the grocery stores. It's like ... magic!
There is a full size station in town that has a pretty good sized generator behind it, I should ask the owner about that. I figure it’s kind of a “readiness” issue, somebody has to be able to pump gas, if only for state police and firemen and ambulance crews and folks like that.
I wonder if even cash sales would require some kind of internet connection these days, even if generator power is available. Wouldn’t surprise me.
Sorry, I’m so lazy.

Plus, in my defense, I believe Pookie’s Toons should be mandatory daily reading— in their entirety! :-)
I see a lot of careless bullies driving Priuses
The cost of my wife’s insurance dropped substantaly when she moved from a seven-year-old Honda to a new Privus V???
Apparently your sightings are not reflected in the insurance rates?
That is why I have a diesel truck that has a huge tank. It pulls my RV nicely without having to refuel for 500+ miles. I keep the tank full all the time in the event of an emergency, I can leave and drive long distances to a safer location with my home in town.
A 50kWh EV battery should be chargeable in one day with a 10kW home solar system.
This is the whole reason why Tesla has the Tesla Solar (aka Solar City) division: run your EV entirely from home solar, using an array no larger than (likely smaller than) your roof.
Someone beat you to it.
They are called hybrids.
Yeah, so were the people who went solar....doesn’t work when the grid is down.
Early EV batteries are expensive to replace, because they’re major components of small-production obsolete vehicles.
Today you can buy a Tesla new for that price. The battery will outlast most ICE vehicles.
I’m told that Teslas make great lawn ornaments...
Every day at noon, from fall until April, the power was cut until it got dark because they had to save up power for their annual Semana Santa Fería in the spring. It had lots of lights and used a lot of power.
They should just “identify” their cars as gas burners.
There, fixed.
That thread is 3 years old. Much has changed since then.
Wonder how big of a generator is needed for Tesla? 5000Kw maybe
Nah, trailer it:
LOL - I'm soooooo thankful I don't live in California...
Gas stations can be easily brought online with generators and as long as the fuel trucks keep coming you are good to go. I have relatives on FL and certain gas stations are required to have pre-wired hook ups for generators and some have permanent ones.
