My son was born after 18 hours of labor, he was six weeks premature. The first thing my wife said after she held him for the first time was: "Let's have another"

On the way home I heard this song:

I'm Shakin - The Blasters

Yes, the subject matter is not about a man and his son, but the song fit my mood at the time. On my 43rd birthday, my then sixteen year old son and his band surprised me and played it for me.

It was great gift!

Glad you liked it.

It is one of my favorite Guy Clark songs/poems as the emotion conveyed is so heartfelt.

Still a hard video to watch even at 51 :)

My pop didn’t leave like that.

Poor man died at 62 from heart attack.

I was 14 and for some reason for YEARS the dreams were of him LEAVING like this guy did. In the dream mom told me she told me he died to make me not feel worse. :)

He was a very good man.

Better than me. Better than most.

A man cannot be a Grandfather, unless he is a father first.

This one is Jimmy Buffet's tribute to his grandfather:

The Captain and the Kid - Jimmy Buffett

I never used to miss the chance
To climb upon his knee
Listen to the many tales
Of life upon the sea

Great choice!

Here is Bing Crosby's version: Danny Boy

I listened to a Paul Harvey episode that spoke of the meanings behind the song. There may be other versions or interpretations, but his telling of the story brought tears to my eyes.

First, he explained that in WWI, if a man of military age heard the Uilleann pipes, it meant he was to go down and join up. It served as a draft notice, so to speak.

Danny was the third and youngest son of the postman. Two son's had heard the pipes and two son's never returned.

Danny Boy is the father's plaintive cry for his third son, Danny, knowing he is to go, and wishing for his return.

I guess Rod’s could be that, but I never thought of it as anything but generally inspirational.

Also to be used for my dad. He’d probably appreciate that.

I am blessed, yes. But it was really for my elder siblings that they gained that fortune.
