'I'LL OPEN THE GATES' Turkey President Erdogan threatens to send 3.6million refugees into Europe...

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan vowed to send 'millions' of Syrians to EuropeCredit: EPA

Speaking to his party, Erdogan warned he would "open the gates" to spark a new refugee crisis if the EU dared to call 'Operation Peace Spring' an "invasion."

"Hey EU, wake up. I say it again: if you try to frame our operation there as an invasion, our task is simple: we will open the gates and send 3.6m migrants to you," he said.

He added that ISIS prisoners held by Kurdish forces would be kept in jail or returned to home countries willing to take them.

Turkey is currently home to around 3.6m Syrian refugees - a third live in 22 government-run camps near the Syrian border.

Erdogan's warning came as one expert claimed the Turkish invasion could trigger a ‘tsunami of human misery' heading to Europe.

Mark Almond, of the UK-based Crisis Research Institute, fears we could even see a repeat of the shocking 2015 refugee crisis.

His warnings come after the Turkish military pounded more than 181 Kurdish targets after launching a ground and air assault in northern Syria.

Just because we cross the dessert to force our way into traditional Kurd territory (for hundreds or thousands of years), don’t you dare call it an invasion.

Those folks are standing in front of our armored vehicles.

That’s obviously an attack!

Is this a 5D Chess move by Trump or his Waterloo?

Most here don’t care.

I’m appalled.

The kurds saved TENS of thousands of Christian lives by standing up to ISIS when NO ONE would

Doesn’t matter if they did it on purpose or not.

They did.

It’s MORE than WE DID FOR YEARS.

And if Trump wasnt elected, Christians would still be getting slaughtered.

And obama probably bathed in their blood.

A mad cap mooslim on his way to perdition. The “sick man of Europe” continues to behave in a maniacal way. Turkey should not be part of NATO. Bring our troops and weaponry out of Incirlik and kick Turkey out of NATO. This not worth a war over.

With that example of no national border, Mexico should have the right to come take back Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California. It’s probably breaking them to support all these refugees.

What people aren’t understanding is that a lot of this has to do with the “refugees” who fled Syria after the Kurds took over the territory and ISIS moved in. Syrians are the largest percentage of European “refugees,” and they were recently told that, in accordance with UN policy, they had to ask for refugee status at the first country...which was Turkey.

The Turks can’t accommodate that many refugees and wanted to get the territory back from the Kurds and resettle the Syrians in their own country.

So this is one of the few times I’ve ever agreed with the Turks. They’re still the “sick man of Europe,” the source of many wars, and should never have been allowed into the EU or NATO...but that’s a whole different matter.

Sometimes you get to make choices, sometimes the choices get made for you

Turkey is going full out in a serious military offensive and the President has two militarily options

The first is to withdraw the handful of American troops and stand down

The second is to respond militarily but with what? We don’t have a troops on the ground presence capable of facing off against a large scale conventional assault by a serious, well equipped military. Especially one that is a fellow NATO ally

The rest of NATO needs to take a hard line if they want to stop this.

The simple fact is that the US does not have a viable military option to halt Turkish military operation at this point and the Turks are fully aware of that basic fact

Political and economic pressure is all we can apply at this point. Our fellow NATO allies are hiding under their desks

President Trump did not do the right thing or the wrong thing - he did the only thing

All else is BS

Europe and the U.S. answer to Erdogan should be - you are out of NATO. Because if you attack the Kurds in Syria (not Turkish territory), and the Kurds or anyone with them retaliates on Turkish soil, you are out of NATO because we will not defend you against the Kurds retaliation for a border war you are starting.

This is FAR more complex than you're distilling it down to.

"The kurds" is about as descriptive as "The arabs". There are many disparate factions with different allegiances to different degrees with multiple hostilities.

Withdrawing 50 of our best operators from a region that's been largely settled and can be destroyed either economically or via highly explosive munitions if things go south is hardly worth talking about.

The problem isn’t the invasion, it is the shelling and bombing.

Armed Kurds should simply have fled 20 miles south. The Turks gave fair warning.

The Turks know how to deal with a “refugee” problem - create a safe zone and send them back.

Europe treats Turkish immigrants like we should treat the illegals here. They are unwanted and tolerated.
