"So.. Victor Davis Hanson pretty much thinks we suck. Well goody for him, when is he leaving?"

Your comment is more than foolish.

Don't you like to hear the truth?

Did you run and tearfully go cry into the house when your dad told you that you did a sh*tty job cutting the grass? You should have just cut it again like he told you.

Your attitude and reaction to the article (as you would say) "sucks".

I wrote that. I’m an engineer. I look at what I’ve built, and it pales in what my predecessors did. The new engineers cant believe what we did, let alone our grandfather’s

Wow.

You certainly have another line of work available to you if you choose.

Your comment is more than foolish.

You mean Vickie doesn't think we suck?

Don't you like to hear the truth?

Maybe you suck so you like to hear Vickie tell you that you suck.

Me, I don't suck and Vickie wouldn't know one way or another.

We grew up hiding under desks from Cuban Missiles. Not a real picnic.

________________

LOL ... I was there then...... 15 years old during the Cuban Missile crisis. It was no real big deal. A couple mornings you walked to school not knowing if things would be the same when you got "home". Other than that, that "getting under your desk" crap in the late 50's and early 60's was mostly seen as a big joke.

Please don't try to make it look like the children of that era were FREAKED OUT with fear over war. We weren't. It was pretty damn good times.

The optimistic fifties and early sixties were absolutely a picnic compared to today. Your generation had a childhood that’s about as close to ideal as it gets in this world.

_________

agreed

I had forgotten about these drills. I was in elementary school. Where I lived, they called them the “Duck and Cover” drills. Sometimes we had to crawl under our desks, and other times, the entire school emptied out of their classrooms and took “cover” by crouching down and against the walls of the hallways.

I remember some about life in southern Calif. during WW2 & thought it was a pretty good place to live. After the war, my parents moved away from there. Glad that we did now.

I think those are decent observations.

Let me toss this into the mix.

In a way, the WWII issue amounts to having a common enemy that causes you to focus on it’s evil. In combating that evil we get the idea we are “doing the Lord’s work”, which I think is true to a point.

We are still the sinners we always were, but we are joined together to end a colossal evil. The focus on that, makes us all look good. (And I’m not trying to dismiss the valiant efforts and sacrificed lives ending that evil, with these comments. This is addressing our decline, and I’m leading up to a point.)

I liken it to when we all faced the evil of Bill Clinton in office. It was a defining time. Many people supported Clinton. Many others couldn’t stomach his antics.

I for one based my thoughts on people, where they came down on Clinton. It seemed they were Conservatives, but in truth, they were only opposed to Clinton, not to the Leftist ideology.

As soon as Clinton was gone, these people reverted to addressing other issues, and they outed themselves as the full bore Leftists the actually were.

It is somewhat like it was right after the events of 09/11/01. For a few weeks/months we were all (but a very few) unified on that issue. It was America first. Then...

You are right about the issues you touched on, and how things crept into our nation that were unseemly, and a threat. We’ve had those things before.

We had the issue of slavery and how it boiled over.

We had the issue of White Supremacy, and addressed that.

We had the issue of the Communists infiltrating, and began to address that. (then backed off, which is hurting us now)

We had the issue of the anti-Government Leftists in the 1960s and 70s. That died down publicly, but festered. Now it’s back.

We had the issue of Bill and Hillary Clintion, and their criminal acts. (not to be confused with made up issues facing Trump) No there were very real issues against the Clintons.

I address the starting point at the Clintons, because it was the first time in my lifetime where we actually had a criminal in the White House, and no matter what he did, and certain people in the media and the Leftists backed him.

Just one example alone: Those 1000 FBI files on individuals brought over to the White House, just to skim for blackmail information.

Carlson got a prison term for his abuse related to one FBI file.

Hillary and Bill had 1000 files in the White House illegally. That wasn’t even addressed.

You could say that revealed that things were 1000 times as bad under the Clintons, and yet nothing came of it.

I don’t think any of us had seen that level of evil in the White House to that point.

So while what you say is true in the comprehensive picture, I still think a new door was opened under the Clinton administration.

He joked about using drugs. A myriad of crimes were raised, pretty much known to be true, and yet nothing. Our culture was seriously harmed by this man, his wife, their fellow travelers, and the public that fell for their lies.

One more example. Nancy Reagan told kids to, “Just say no.” Drug use in high schools declined significantly. Bill Clinton’s comment was, “Yes, but I didn’t inhale.” During his administration drug use in high schools became worse than it had been before Nancy Reagan’s campaign.

Clinton gave kids an excuse to do bad things. “Yeah, well Bill Clinton did it, and he’s president.”

A lot of adults bought into that mindset as well.

Bill outed the corruption in our government. It had been there, but all of a sudden it was there, it was public knowledge, and folks didn’t care.

That was a sea change, and Obama tripled down on it.

You see, where the Leftist talking heads actually admitted what Clinton did was wrong then reverted to being openly Leftist, they under Obama and until now back the evil players and the evil they have done.

There’s no push-back on evil. They buttress it.

Under Obama’s administration it was okay to arm and fund terrorist groups sworn to destroy the U.S., and to bring terrorist group members into the Oval Office, and other government operations to “consult”.

No push-back on this. It was just circle the wagons and defend Obama no matter the evil. And then they actually defended the evil as well.

That’s why I addressed Clinton and Obama here.

I don’t disagree with your line of reasoning though.

However, this was a new level of treachery > IMO.
