I don’t know of a school here in sacramento that allows dodge ball anymore.

Elementary school in the early 80’s we use to play the incredibly un-PC game of smear the queer. Holy cow, any kid playing that now would go directly to jail. Automatic 10 year sentence.

In my old neighborhood we played smear the queer hundreds of times. Lots of fun.

We usually played if we didn’t have enough kids to play football or we had an odd number of players.

We had a game called "Kill the man with the ball". The rules were complex. There was a ball, someone got it and tried to flee. We tackled and pummeled him until he dropped it, then someone else picked up the ball and the process started again. Actually those rules are not that complex now that I write them out.

I'm not saying we were geniuses or anything but it worked. Of course in modern public schools the game would be banned because "kill" is a banned word and "the man" is too binary-centric and exclusionary. "Ball" is probably offensive to someone too, so that's out. Let's just draw on the pavement with chalk. Oops, the state of california has determined that this chalk based product (and every other product made anywhere for any purpose) may cause cancer. Shoot. We'll just sit here quietly and wait for school to start.
