Baltimore police said one of their officers was surrounded by over 100 people in a parking lot in northwest Baltimore later Saturday night.
An officer responded shortly before 10 p.m. to the lot at Wabash Avenue and W. Northern Parkway where a very large group had gathered with their cars to partake in illegal activities, police said.
The officer got out of his car and approached the group when around 100 to 150 people surrounded the officer, police said.
He then called for backup, and when the other officers arrived the crowd dispersed without incident. No one was injured or arrested.
And what would have been the outcome had backup not arrived?
Odd that any LEO would make a solitary dispatch call, in Baltimore.
Seeing a big crowd like that, seems he should have asked for backup before he even left his police car. If anyone knows,
are police obligated to leave their car and check on similar situations, even when patrolling alone? Or is it an officer’s individual discretion? “Should I stay or should I go?”
He could easily have been killed, and there would be ‘no witnesses’. Especially if it was a white officer in a very black neighborhood. I wish this was not so, but too often it is.
The late Paul Harvey was wont to say, “There can be no self-government without self-discipline.” The denizens of Baltimore clearly lack the second and are incapable of the first.
baltimore is in THE Freak state . Escape while you still are allowed to do so .
Teens?
[Teens?]
I was guessing Norwegian Amish given space to destroy.
But that’s just a guess, mind you.
LEOS and Paramedics Fire Fighters need to stand down on calls into Baltimore.
I wonder what the cop would have done, if the crowd started advancing on him, telling him he was dead meat?
1 riot, 1 ranger.
CC
The brothers would have killed him, burned his car and stolen his gun. My old stomping grounds. Never had any re trouble except for a few white anti-Semitic crackers from hampden and Hamilton. Once the blacks flooded n.w baltimore crime shot thru the ceiling. End of story.
I was once an OLD but NOT BOLD peace officer, who is now long retired.= I lived to retirement by luck & not being needlessly reckless/heedless of obvious danger.
(I once, about 2 decades ago, worked Baltimore County, MD for our organization’s local resident agency. The POTUS is 100% correct about what downtown Baltimore is like.= A HORRID MESS.)
Had I rolled up upon such a scene, I would have IMMEDIATELY called for “back-up” units & would have told “central dispatch” that I was in need of SEVERAL patrol units to immediately respond to my location & to be alert for impending violence.
(Depending on what “my gut” said, I might well have asked that the city’s tactical squad be “noticed” to “respond upon call”, too.)
FYI, our agency NEVER worked urban areas of Baltimore County in single LEO vehicles. - Generally we sent a pair of 2-officer units with 2 more units “hanging back” & just out of sight.
(When we had to enter the “rougher areas” of B’more, we always also notified the BCSD of where we were going & what the mission/plan was BEFORE we departed the office for those areas, especially after dusk. = MANY areas of “Charm City”, which are relatively calm in daylight, are The Wild West after dark.)
From what this thread says about the situation, I would bet that had the single LEO not received back-up units quickly, that he would have been severely wounded or killed.
(Even when I worked B’more, about half of the people that we came in contact with were carrying unlawful weapons AND they generally were UNAFRAID to engage & fire ON police.)
Just my opinions, TMN78247
One cop and 150 people doing illegal activities. Although to be honest, that would have been enough to disburse me and the other kids watching a couple guys doing donuts in the parking lot after the high school football game 40 years ago.
He’d be dead.
But at least he could have taken as many of them with him as his magazine allowed.
I suspect the officer was black himself or that would already have been the situation.
Sounds like a bunch of Southern Baptists.
I find it odd that at this point anyone with a car and a full tank of gas would still live in Baltimore.
Police should not go where they are not wanted. That includes entire cities if necessary. Im certain the good folks in these democrat liberal cities will be liberal, well-behaved, non-violent, and ecumenical.
Good job by the Baltimore cop. At least he didn’t turn tail like some NYPD officers when they were confronted by a crowd pouring water over them.
