Three men were killed Friday night when they crashed a vehicle into a barrier activated by a security forces gate sentry at Robins Air Force Base, according to a base news release.

The Air Force Office of Special Investigations and the FBI have been asked to help in identifying the men, said Houston Coroner Danny Galpin.

The men had no identification on them, said Galpin, who was summoned to the crash scene.

The incident unfolded about 9:30 p.m. when a vehicle approached the Russell Parkway gate that is an entrance way onto the base, according the release.

The driver failed to stop as ordered by the gate sentry, who activated a security barrier when the vehicle sped through the gate, according to the release.

The vehicle hit the barrier at a high rate of speed, the release said.

Galpin said the barriers are down in the ground, but rise when activated.

The driver and one passenger were pronounced dead on scene, the release said. The other passenger was taken to Houston Medical Center, where he later died, according to the release.

We had an incident like this in Kosovo where a Yugo type sh*t machine crashed into a barrier and a similar incident in Iraq a few years later where a old Mercedes got lit up by the gate guards. Both were deemed non hostile and tragic accidents but the BIG BOLD multi-language warnings and signs were ignored. The new raised barriers I see now could stop a tank.

“This is a tragedy which we all feel deeply at Robins Air Force Base.

This is the kind of tripe that can be expected when the vice commander is some skank named Katrina.

Cars rarely explode in a crash except on TV.

Thanks! I thought it had said something like that when I first read it - then scanned the excerpt again as I was posting and missed it! Still odd the way the statement phrases it as tragic.

Cars even more rarely crash thru air base check points...

especially at sufficient speed to kill the passengers...

And when they do, those vehicles are more typically of the exploding design.

What? That it was posted in the security office one day when I went in to get a base permit, and they told me it was no longer required, then every time afterwards I was allowed to just get my license barcode scanned at the checkpoint then waved through? Well, I must have had a recurring nightmare about it for two years.

Get your facts straight. I lived it.

“This is a tragedy.......we all feel very deeply...” said Col. Katrina Stephens, vice commander.

Ah no, this is NOT “a tragedy.” This is many things but a “tragedy” is not and as to “we all feel very deeply,” madam, I would inquire exactly why are any of you “feeling very deeply?”

Suspicious, as to the exact intent of those unnamed men and perhaps guilty even and ashamed that a guard at the gate of your military complexes is unarmed, or if not armed, did not offer up a few rounds at a driver who refuses to halt, when ordered to, then speeds up!

Sissyfing our military will cost us yet!

This isn’t a college campus, a gated golf community of retirees, it’s a military post, dammit!

I used to make regular computer calls at Fort Benning, and it was SOP to get your vehicle tagged with a day pass from the JAG's office by the gate cops. Then 0bama dropped the security procedure, and it was inexplicable. Sure, just drive on in to a military base with no pass, no inspection, nothing. It was amazing that nothing got blown up. That's when I knew firsthand that Zero detested this country.

Do you remember any publicity about that change at the time?

"Holy shit...they do not mess around."

Many Air Force bases have stockpiled nuclear
weapons (Minot AFB, ND for instance). That makes
the military police particularly touchy and tense.

And you are right, they don't mess around with intruders.
Especially since the 9/11 attacks and the fact that
America has potentially many psychotic jihadi,
Arab/Muslim fanatics running around the country
who hate the US Armed Forces and the USA.

If that’s happening that often,
then there is a system problem with that base.
They need to put in a curve, warning lights, Couple of tanks in the middle of the road, certain death ahead road signs, speed hills, gates, etc

Really? I have not found this to be the case. In November, my friends and I wanted to visit the SeaBee Museum on the Naval Base in Gulfport. We were denied entry as we had no personnel with us. I was disappointed as I'm very proud of the SeaBees. But, no is no. Then, I've visited Fort Sill twice in the last year or so. I had to go through the whole procedure at the Visitor's Center just inside the main gate. As a side note, you're out of luck if you want to visit Geronimo's grave and are not with someone in the service.
