House Democrats have followed through on their threat to issue a subpoena to the White House for documents concerning President Trump's dealings with Ukraine.
The chairmen of three House panels notified acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney of the subpoena in a letter on Friday. The subpoena is being issued by the chamber's Oversight and Reform Committee.
Oversight Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) warned in a memo on Wednesday that he would issue the subpoena if the White House didn't comply by the end of the week.
But Cummings and the other two committee chairmen leading the impeachment inquiry -- Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Eliot Engel (D-N.Y.) -- said they had not received any response as of Friday evening.
“We deeply regret that President Trump has put us—and the nation—in this position, but his actions have left us with no choice but to issue this subpoena,” the chairmen wrote in a letter to Mulvaney.
The Democrats are seeking documents related to Trump's efforts to pressure the Ukrainian government to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden, a top political rival and leading Democratic presidential contender.
The Hill has reached out to the White House for comment.

They don’t hide anything. It’s right in our face.
House has several different modes. One is legislation and legislative oversight. That's what the House is in, most of the time. Legislative scope is delegated between committees.
Distinct from that is impeachment mode. In that mode, the House is a quasi-prosecutor, with all the tools attendant to conducting an investigation and prosecution. The powers of impeachment belong to the whole house, and require assent of the whole house to be exercised. These powers are not delegated to any committee.
So read the first page of the paper that claims to be a subpoena. It says the letter is exercising powers delegated by legislative oversight, then it demands appearance in pursuit of an impeachment inquiry. Schizo. Nonsense. A court would laugh this out.
What the DEMs will do when this is stonewalled (past letters were not even acknowledged) is scream and shout to the press. They will not move to court. They are not conducting a "serious" impeachment.
The press is complicit with the DEMs, holding these fakes out as authentic. Despicable trading on the gullibility of the public.

It's not even that. That could be litigated in court, if this was a real subpoena. This is literally a fake subpoena. The House will never take the WH to court to get a court order, which is how these are enforced and litigated.
All the House will get is the right to call a contempt of Congress.
These are nonsense documents. "Pursuant to our legislative oversight power we command appearance for an impeachment investigation" is legal nonsense. A bad parallel would be "Pursuant to our power to oversee intelligence, submit your tax returns."
The difference is that impeachment investigation power belongs to the whole House, and the whole House has NOT delegated that power to any committee.
Two words. “Executive Privilege.” The WH owes those clowns nothing.

I don’t know why Trump would comply. He alone has the authority on relations with other countries. So he should say that his talks with other countries are constitutionally protected.
He had better do what they say or they might impeach him!

One of the Four B*tches of the Apocalypse, Rashida Tlaib, claimed the democRATS were looking into ways to arrest the cabinet officers who refused to honor their subpoenas.
At least that's slightly better than what that perennial drunk, Bill Weld, who claims he's running against Trump as a Republican, said a week or so ago that Trump was guilty of treason over the Ukraine phone call and the "only penalty for treason was to put Trump to death."

The democrats want the see the evidence that has been gathered against them in relation to the Ukraine, so that they can counteract it. In the real world this would be be called Obstruction of Justice by the democrats.
