It may not have been official policy of any legitimate Polish Government, but half of all Jews murdered during the period were in Poland. Not one single Pole served as a guard at any of the camps. There were plenty of Ukrainian and Latvian guards, but no Poles. Why were the camps in Poland? Because that was where most of the Jews lived pre-war, and what was the point of building the camps farther away than they had to be?

What Polish Government? There was no Polish Government.
Any Pole caught assisting a Jew in any way, not only would be killed, but the rest of their family as well.
