For President Trump, the case built by Democrats over his alleged effort to recruit foreign help for his reelection effort isn't just a "WITCH HUNT," it's "treason." It isn't just "presidential harassment," it's an invitation to "Civil War."
The president is bringing the rhetorical heavy artillery to the most serious challenge to his presidency in nearly three years.
Expanding on the lexicon of outrage and victimhood honed during the probe into Russian interference in the last election, Trump is invoking the idioms of the country's beginnings.
Ratcheting up of his rhetoric is also indicative of Trump's tendency to interpret any criticism as an attack on the government, worrying critics and scholars who warn of the dangers posed by his call to arms.
"Charging anyone with treason is a most unusual act in American history. It's an incendiary charge which relates to the ultimate crime: overthrow of the state," said Michael Glennon, law professor at Tufts University.
In setting out a definition and consequences for treason in the Constitution, including death, the Founders were guarding against the "danger that the charge of treason could be made irresponsibly against political opponents," he said.
"We are dealing with dynamite here," Glennon said.
Trump has focused his most pointed comments on Rep. Adam Schiff, chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, and the anonymous whistleblower who filed a complaint concerning Trump's July phone call with Ukrainian President Zelensky at the center of impeachment push over accusations Trump misused the power of his office.
"Rep. Adam B. Schiff illegally made up a FAKE & terrible statement, pretended it to be mine . . . It bore NO relationship to what I said on the call," Trump tweeted Monday.
"Arrest for Treason?" the president wrote.

It is totally an attack on the country. Those of us who voted for Trump did so, at least in part, because of the grave damage that Obama did, and to try to head off the socialist dictatorship that Obama almost achieved and which Hillary was going to fully implement. We know that the harassment of Trump is all about conducting a coup to achieve what the left has been unable to achieve despite years of conditioning and propaganda.
The USSR started this destruction of our country decades ago, and our propaganda news media is exactly what the Soviets wanted. Rooting it out is not going to be easy.
IOW, there is a God.
It’s an attack against America, our elections, and system of government. Sure it is. We voted for Trump to be president. Democrats have been trying to reverse that even before he was sworn in. There needs to be a probe of the democrat party, and their political activity suspended.

Can Anne truly be so obtuse as to believe PDJT is referring only to this latest assault on this presidency? Good grief! This man has not had a single day in nearly 3 years where he hasn't been under extreme impeachment attack.
If that is not an attack on the country I don't know what is. It is a massive, ongoing abuse of the Constitution and the citizens who elected this president. Yeah, I'd say civil war is brewing over it.
