Those targeted were notified that emails they sent years ago have been retroactively classified and now constitute potential security violations, according to letters reviewed by The Washington Post.No. This sounds like hogwash. If something is not classified when one sends it then I don't see how it can be a security violation. If the e-mails were classified when sent then they were not retroactively classified. This sounds like the Compost screaming about nothing.

Not how I read it. They are classified now to prevent their distribution, their leaking, I suppose this is the reason.
Those that sent and received years ago will not be charged with any violation or crime but they will be questioned and ordered to treat those old emails as now classified.
That’s how I read it.

"hogwash"
Per FR threads over the years, her peons where instructed to remove ALL headers denoting classification of documents to be sent to the Hilldabeast.

I think in this context that retroactive means that the material really was classified when it was sent, but not properly marked. Now they are reviewing and figuring out who screwed up.
I don't think that material that is unclassified suddenly becomes classified, usually it's the other way around.
