Stetson hats were made from their fur in the 40’s I think, maybe even earlier.

Yes some were, they had a line of higher end fedoras made with Nutria fur felt. Nowadays survivors of that era command a pretty penny.
Don’t know if the current iteration of Stetson still produces Nutria felt hats. I imagine if they do, they’re nowhere near Golden Age quality.
