~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: Anniston Army Depot, Alabama

ALanniston1

Anniston Army Depot (ANAD) is a major United States Army facility for the production and repair of ground combat vehicles, overhaul of Small Arms Weapon Systems and the storage of chemical weapons, a.k.a. the Anniston Chemical Activity. The depot is located in Bynum, Alabama.

ALanniston6ALanniston6ALanniston6ALanniston6ALanniston6

ALanniston2

As of 2014, the Depot employs 3,400 civilian workers. Tanks and other equipment are repaired and tested, but historically Anniston's main role since World War II has been as a major munitions storage site.

Anniston is one of seven depots in the United States where chemical weapons are stored (7.2% of nation's chemical weapons stockpile).[3] The stockpile has included rockets, bombs, projectiles, and land mines armed with Sarin, VX nerve agent, or mustard gas.

ALanniston5

ANAD is the only depot capable of performing maintenance on heavy-tracked combat vehicles and their components and houses a state of the art 250,000 sq.ft. Small Arms Overhaul facility, which opened in January 2012 to replace an outdated facility.

The depot is designated as the Center of Technical Excellence for the M1 Abrams Tank and is the designated candidate depot for the repair of the M60 Patton tank, AVLB, M728, M88 Recovery Vehicle and M551 combat vehicles. During the Iraq War, over 1,000 M1 tanks, Howitzers, and other armored vehicles were stored awaiting re-engineering.

ALanniston4

ANAD is the Army's primary site for final assembly, reset, and overhaul for the Stryker family of wheeled fighting vehicles. All ten of the Stryker vehicle variants are assembled in the Nichols Industrial Park area by contractor General Dynamics − Land Systems.

Stryker battle damage repair and reset is accomplished through a work sharing arrangement between the Depot and contractor, including a Stryker Exchange Program that converts the original flat bottomed Stryker vehicle to the IED-resistant Double V Hull configuration developed for combat operations in Afghanistan.

September 24

Qualified in God’s Eyes

Bible in a Year : Song of Songs 4–5; Galatians 3

[Noah] walked faithfully with God. Genesis 6:9

A technology-consulting firm hired me after college although I couldn’t write a line of computer code and had very little business knowledge. During the interview process for my entry-level position, I learned that the company did not place high value on work experience. Instead, personal qualities such as the ability to solve problems creatively, exercise good judgment, and work well with a team were more important. The company assumed new workers could be taught the necessary skills as long as they were the kind of people the company was looking for.

Noah didn’t have the right resume for the job of constructing the ark—he wasn’t a boat builder or even a carpenter. Noah was a farmer, a man comfortable with dirt on his shirt and a plow in his hands. Yet as God decided how to deal with the evil in the world at that time, Noah stood out because “he walked faithfully with God” (Genesis 6:9). God valued the teachableness of Noah’s heart—the strength to resist the corruption around him and to do what was right.

When opportunities to serve God come our way, we may not feel qualified for the work. Thankfully, God is not necessarily concerned with our skill set. He prizes our character, love for Him, and willingness to trust Him. When these qualities are being developed inside us by the Spirit, He can use us in big or small ways to accomplish His will on earth.

By:  Jennifer Benson Schuldt

Reflect & Pray

What character qualities do you need God to develop in you? Why is your character so important to God?

Dear God, give me a heart that’s willing to serve You in any way. Equip me in the areas where I lack experience, and fill me with Your Spirit.

Nice day today. Started out with a jacket but it got too hot for it. Soon it will snow. Maybe that is why they rebuild the tanks in a warm climate.

Howdy, Kathy.

Another week begins. Fun, fun, fun ...... not.
Maybe they’ll find a new hire this week to take more of the load off you and the other three.

Howdy, LUV.

How much rain did you end up with after last night’s storms and showers?

We had clouds today and I drove through a couple of sprinkles but nothing fell here at home. :-(

Hiya radu!

Good weekend on my end and we did get out to the gun range.

It's much cooler now so we were able to do all we wanted to do, pistol shooting, the 'dreaded' AR-15 😀, and we did some trap shooting too. Good day and then we had lunch and hung out.

How wuz your weekend? Kittehs behavin'?

I think hubby said we got .4” overnight...which added to the rest of it is really good. The weather has cooled a bit, so that is very helpful, too.

That just stinks that you had showers everywhere but home. I know things must be looking pretty crispy there. Wouldn’t be a good time to have to use the cattle prod, that’s for sure! LOL!

Oh noes! The ‘dreaded’ AR-15? I’m stuned!
It sounds like you had a great time out there. Nice that the weather cooperated so you could do all you wanted to do.

We’re still roasting here though it wasn’t bad today. We get a two-day break in the heat, then it roars back in for another week at least.

Had a great weekend but I’m still pooped. Fri. and Sat. nights were spent at a weekend street festival helping promote the congressional candidate I work for. And I worked at the museum Sat. morning and afternoon. Still dragging a little today. Just don’t have the stamina any more. Gettin’ older stinks. LOL

Da kittehs have been a bit rambunctious the past few days but are all sleeping at the moment. Sweet quiet in the house.

Y’all did good with the rain yesterday. I wish it could have held together better so we’d get some. It’s just so dry here these days it leeches the moisture out of the fronts before they reach us. The showers that did fall weren’t widespread. I just happened to drive underneath a couple that were barely more than mist.

VERY crunchy around here. They just announced statewide burn bans are in effect now.

Good grief, you are a busy lady! LOL, too much work for me but it's great that you're supporting a candidate who will do well for Tennessee if elected.

And yes, getting old gets old, LOL!
