This will be a weekly post.
Count remains at 150 judges confirmed.
105 District Court judges
43 Circuit Court judges
2 Supreme Court justices
The Senate this week was busy confirming a number of executive appointments.
On Friday President Trump nominated six more to be judges, including two more to the 9th circuit.
There are now 8 pending circuit court nominees. If all are confirmed, President Trump will have filled 51 Circuit Court seats in just three years. Obama filled 55 in EIGHT years! The judiciary is being rapidly remade!
I have to think Trump and Cocaine Mitch have a strategic plan that prioritizes the courts that have been the worst...
The map is very helpful but at least in the case of California it seems incorrect.
There are 10 open slots without nominees for California District Court with the nominees from 9/20 not yet accounted for.
Bumatay is listed as a district court nominee as of 9/19 but is now nominated for appeals court producing an additional vacancy. The 4 nominees from 9/20 reduce the open seats in California to 7 (including the one that Bumatay had been nominated to) yet California is shown as nominations made for all vacancies.
“The Senate was busy this week shafting American tech workers by passing the Fairness for High-Skilled Immigrants Act of 2019”
Yes, alas, read it and weep. The skunks have been bought off again.
I thought Lee’s bill was blocked at least for now?
The bill, called the Fairness for High-Skilled Immigrants Act and introduced in February, requires unanimous consent to be brought to the Senate floor, immigration lawyer William Stock noted on Twitter. On Thursday, Sen. David Perdue (R-GA) blocked it for now. I support this bill, Perdue said. We have some language that needs to be clarified and I still have some concerns about the impact this legislation would have on some specific industries in not only my state but in the country. Perdue said he wanted to work with Sen. Lee to quickly resolve his concerns about the bill.
I’ll grant you Bumatay, but have you included Adam Braverton, Fernando Aenile Rocahan, Sandy Nunes Leal, Shireen Mathews, Rick Richmond and Todd Robinson? All announced, but not yet officially submitted to the Senate.
Thank you. I searched those judges out after your information:
On Aug 28th announcement: Adam L. Braverman, Fernando L. Aenlle-Rocha, Sandy Nunes Leal, Shireen Matthews, and Rick Richmond were nominated. Interestingly enough so were Danielle J. Hunsaker & William J. Nardini who were just announced again Sept 19-20. The last, Todd Robinson, was announced on the 12th of September.
I have seen this happen before when nominations were announced yet the uscourts.gov did not list those nominations for months until they were reannounced in Whitehouse News. Freepers told me then that there is work that goes on in the vetting & processing. UScourts.gov only posts nominees after certain conditions are met. IDK.
I am glad to hear that there are people selected for the other California district courts. Only the replacement district court seat, that Bumatay was slotted for, needs a nominee. When I watched this process the last time all of the nominees did eventually make the list but after several months. Hopefully that will be the case again.
Filling the open slots in Appeals and District Court is essential. I also hope that the Republican appointed justices in their 70’s & 80’s will take senior status so that their seats will be secured with conservative judges young enough to serve for decades.
