Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) backed up “The Princess Bride” star Cary Elwes’s dismay at the notion of a potential remake of the 1987 classic on Wednesday.

“There’s a shortage of perfect movies in this world. It would be a pity to damage this one,” Elwes tweeted Tuesday, paraphrasing a line from the film, in response to a Variety article that quotes Sony Pictures Entertainment CEO Tony Vinciquerra as saying “very famous people whose names I won’t use” want to remake the film.

“I have never agreed with a statement more,” Cruz tweeted Wednesday, quoting Elwes’s tweet.

Cruz has repeatedly discussed his love of the fantasy film, reenacting the scene where Elwes’s character Westley is revived from near-death in front of an Iowa church congregation during his presidential campaign in 2015.

Andre the Giant said working on the film was one of the best times of his life because everybody treated him like just one of the guys.

Mid-life crisis. He’ll end up having an affair with Milano.

If it will stop him from quoting it again, I’m in favor of not remaking it.

Yawn.

The Princess bride can't be repeated really, because the magic was dependent on the Chemistry between the cast members.

Read the book. Its one of the rare cases where the movie is legitimately better than the book (which was written fourteen years earlier.)

Some times remakes are a bad idea, and I suspect that given Goldman's source material another version would turn out as awful as the Willie Wonka remake.

They’ve run out of ideas folks, remakes are their only option anymore.

The idea of remaking classics like Casablanca, Blazing Saddles, Deliverance, Princess Bride etc etc...is, well, INCONCEIVABLE!

It is good to live and breath politics 24/7/365.

Just like the Founders intended.

In an Archeology course I took in the 1970s, the teacher stated that the quality of a civilization can be judged by its artifacts. Our civilization’s best accomplishments were in the 1960s through 1980s. (exception: architecture) Probably would be best leaving that stuff alone.

“They’ve run out of ideas folks”

They're morally and spiritually bankrupt and often evil. They can't come up with new good ideas.

"INCONCEIVABLE!"

I don't think you really know what that word means.

When Rome is burning, just concentrate on other things and utilize your time on trivial matters. It all will work itself out in the end right?

I would be ok with you saying 30s to 80s but I can’t see leaving out “Casablanca”, “It’s a wonderful life”, and a number of other great films, music, even scientific accomplishments of the early 20th century.

I’d even go so far as to say earlier than the 30s given the industrial revolution. Lord knows our literature hasn’t improved.

No, do the PB remake! Think of all the money wasted on, for example, the SJW Ghostbusters, that could have been spent on Lefty-political causes!

Go ahead and burn that cash! No one will watch it anyway!
