I think you are mistaken.

You might think that the county would do the right thing and if not charge the officer with assault (and she was never charged with anything) at least rule that it was the county's fault any pay the medical bills for the poor baby, but no, the local courts ruled it perfectly acceptable, and not only was the kid maimed, but the parents had to bear the whole brunt of his numerous surgeries (last time I heard in excess of $125k)

I only know of one such instance. The deputy was charged, there was a criminal trial, the deputy was acquitted at a jury trial.

The family received a 3.6 million settlement, which is offset by about 1 million in medical costs.

I stand corrected. I was NOT up to date on this one. However, the deputy WAS not found guilty, so she faced no consequences, and I’m sure she did not pay for her own defense lawyer.
