"When I first read that book, I saw it as a warning. Revisiting it now, it appears to have, in many ways, fairly accurately predicted where our government was headed. Modern events parallel the events in the book a lot more than I’m comfortable with."

I wouldn't just say government, but culture/society as well.

Good catch. Yes, the culture. The author could never, in her wildest imagination, have predicted the LGBT movement, though. Nor the homosexual rights nonsense.

Even when people fairly accurately predict the future, they miss important things nobody saw coming. That is why most science fiction eventually becomes horribly dated. :)
